Barbara Ann (Winkler) Hicks, 93, of Franklin, IN passed away on Wednesday, December 24, 2025 at Otterbein Franklin Seniorlife Community in Franklin, IN.

She was born January 24, 1932 in Indianapolis, IN to Hubert Winkler and Ethel Irene (Ransdell) Winkler Sandefur.

Barbara married Charles E. Hicks on October 1, 1949 in Franklin, IN; he preceded her in death on May 22, 2018.

She had worked at Johnson Memorial Hospital in housekeeping and was a loving homemaker.

Barbara enjoyed being a mom, having her children being her first priority. She enjoyed gardening and going out with her husband Charles and friends to the VFW on the weekends.

Survivors include her children Jerry W. Hicks (Mitzie-deceased) of Shelbyville, IN, Linda C. Bailey (Jim) of Sylvania, OH, Norma J. Taylor (Harold) of Jamestown, KY and Wanda J. Gentry (Harry) of Franklin, IN, fifteen grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, several great-great grandchildren, a sister Stella Feller (George) of Franklin, IN.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sons Charles Wayne Hicks on November 22, 2002 and Billy J. Hicks on August 22, 2015 and a brother Robert Eugene Winkler.

Chaplain Bob Newlin will conduct a service on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at 11AM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN and will be live-streamed at www.swartzmortuary.com.  Friends may call Friday, January 2, 2026 from 4PM until 8PM at the mortuary.

Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin, IN.
