Buddy Eugene Rhoades, 89, of Greenwood, IN passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2022. He was born in Indianapolis, IN on April 24, 1933 to Clarence William Rhoades and Vallie LaVerne (Edwards) Rhoades. In 1946, the family moved to Whiteland, IN to start a family farm. He married Doris (Lasiter) Rhoades on September 2, 1953 in Bargersville, IN, she survives.
He was a 1951 graduate of Whiteland High School. In May of 1954, he enlisted in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in March of 1956 at the Aberdeen Proving Ground in Aberdeen, Maryland where he received the National Defense Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
Buddy was a longtime farmer in Johnson County and had been a school bus driver for the Clark Pleasant Community Schools and Greenwood Community Schools for 20 years. He later had been a bus driver for Access Johnson County. He also proudly raised and sold vegetables and especially sweet corn at various areas of Greenwood from his pickup truck stand over the years.
He was a 56 year member of Greenwood Christian Church where he had served as an elder for many years.
Survivors include his wife Doris (Lasiter) Rhoades of Greenwood, IN, daughters Susan McKeen of Bloomington, IN and Linda Polesel (Rick) of Whiteland, IN, a son Gary Rhoades (Lisa) of Bargersville, IN, grandson Travis Polesel (Heather) of Whiteland, IN, granddaughters Autumn Houseman (Michael) of Greenwood, IN, Valli Shattuck (Patrick) of Greenwood, IN, Cori Wilkerson (Andrew) of Greensburg, IN, Chelsea Ruddick (Luke) of Bloomington, IN, Kendyl McKeen of Ellettsville, IN, Morgan Rhoades of Boston, MA, Courtney Goebel (Collin) of Loogootee, IN and Riley McKeen of Bloomington, IN and fourteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Carol Ann Rhoades on December 24, 1972 and a brother William "Dusty" Rhoades.
The Reverends Matt Giebler and Shan Rutherford and David Strange will conduct a service on Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at 11:30 A.M. at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN and will be live-streamed at www.swartzmortuary.com . Friends may call Tuesday, May 17, 2022 from 4PM until 8PM at the mortuary. Burial with military honors will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood, IN.
