Delbert Gordon Teeters, 96, of Trafalgar, IN passed away on Friday, June 26, 2026 at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis, IN.
Delbert was born on September 27, 1929 in Bargersville, IN, the son of the late William Lonnie and Katie Jane (Tresslar) Teeters.
Delbert graduated from Trafalgar High School in 1948. Delbert enlisted with the United States Army in August of 1948. He attained the rank of Corporal serving in the Army Security Agency until his honorable discharge in December of 1951 during the Korean Conflict. He played professional basketball with the Army All Stars Team before deployment to Korea. Following his discharge, Delbert was a lifelong self-employed Dairy Farmer and was a dedicated school bus driver for the Nineveh Hensley Jackson School Corporation for 49 years. He was a member of Bluff Creek Christian Church, the Masonic Lodge, the American Legion, Milk Marketing Inc. (Dairy Farmers of America) serving as a District Director, Indiana Brown Swiss Association serving as a State Director, Indiana Quarter Horse Association and a 4-H leader of the Hensley Township Boys & Girls 4-H Club for 58 years.
Delbert was entirely devoted to his family and enjoyed his lifelong passion of dairy farming, raising and showing registered Brown Swiss Cattle and registered Quarter Horses. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed woodworking having made numerous items for family and friends. He absolutely loved children, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved the game of basketball and played in numerous alumni games as well as exclusively driving the team bus for the Indian Creek High School Basketball and Football teams. He met the love of his life Nancy Jane Webb in 1952 at a basketball game at Southport High School. They married July 18, 1954 having a long lasting marriage of 72 years.
Delbert was preceded in death by his son William Lonnie Teeters, parents William Lonnie and Katie Jane (Tresslar) Teeters, brothers Leroy, Leslie, Burl and Murl Teeters, and his sister Alberta (Teeters) Farr.
He leaves behind and not forgotten his wife Nancy Jane (Webb) Teeters of Trafalgar, IN, his daughters Katie Jane Teeters of Trafalgar, IN, Laura Beth Beaman (Mike) of Milroy, IN and Virginia Lynn Bays (Robert) of Crossville, TN, his grandchildren Samuel Curtis Beaman (Chelsie), John Eric Beaman (Cassie), Lee Michael Beaman (Carrie), Krista Marie Evans (Jacob), Rebecca Lynn Young (Trevor), Hannah Elaine Deguch (David), Robert Levi Bays III (Ashley) and 8 great grandchildren.
Clete Meyers will conduct a service on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 at 2PM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN with military honors being conducted the United States Army Honor Guard and Franklin American Legion Post 205 Honor Guard and will be live-streamed at www.swartzmortuary.com/obituary/delbertteeters.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 from 11AM until service time at the mortuary.
A private family inurnment will take place at a later date at Bluff Creek Cemetery in Greenwood, IN.
The family request memorial contributions may be made to the Indiana Brown Swiss Breeders Association.
