Dorothy June Weddle, 97, of Franklin, Indiana, passed away on March 18, 2025, at the Franciscan Hospice House in Indianapolis. Dorothy was born on January 25, 1928, in Crawfordsville, Indiana to Clayton Lyons and Pearl (Thompson) Lyons and was the 10th child of 11. She graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1945 and married Forrest Weddle in Crawfordsville on August 29, 1948; he preceded her in death on November 3, 2014. She worked at Indiana Bell for 10 years and JC Penney for 22 years with total dedication. Dorothy was a member of the Franklin Apostolic Church and attended Drexel Gardens Apostolic Church as well. Dorothy and Forrest pastored a church that they started in Covington. In addition, they pastored in Rockville, Crawfordsville, Franklin and Brownsburg, Indiana. Her love for God was respected by all that she encountered.
Dorothy was cherished and admired by her family for her quick sense of humor, recipes, quilting, and seamstress skills. Dorothy valued attending family reunions and enjoyed sharing her knowledge of the family and provided counsel on various topics. She watched football on Sundays with great enthusiasm. She traveled to Germany, Switzerland, Ireland, Scotland and London. She spent winters in Florida, Arizona, and Carrollton, Texas with her son, Daniel and wife Denise.
Dorothy is survived by her two children, Daniel Weddle (spouse Denise Fortin) of Carrollton, Texas and Marcia (spouse Timothy) Sleighter of Trafalgar, IN, five grandchildren including Jason Weddle, Datha (Jeff) Matthews, Clayton Sleighter, Joseph (Brooke) Miller and Marissa Miller as well as 6 great grandchildren including Payton (Levi) Fewell, Carlson Dalton, Raegan Weddle, Joleigh Matthews, Hudson Matthews and Maverick Miller.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings including Floyd Lyons, Paul Lyons, Marjorie Shipman, Mildred Lambert, Max Lyons, John Lyons, Ruth Tracy, Marie Budd, Harold Lyons and Darrell Lyons.
The viewing will be held from 10 AM until 12 PM on Monday, March 24, 2025 at the Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN followed by the funeral service at 12 Noon with the Reverend Chauncey Romine conducting and will be live-streamed at www.swartzmortuary.com/obituary/dorothyweddle. The burial will follow the service at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, 1977 South State Road 135 in Greenwood, IN.
