Duane Daniel Plummer, 65, a lifelong resident of Bargersville, IN passed away on Tuesday, December 23, 2025 with his family by his side.

Duane was born November 1, 1960 in Indianapolis to Eugene Daniel "Flip" Plummer and Marie Jane (Stewart) Plummer.  He married Melinda Ann (Dougherty) Plummer on December 7, 1985 at Community Congregational Church in Franklin, IN; she survives.

He was a 1979 graduate of Center Grove High School and the Purdue University Agriculture short course.

Duane was a lifelong farmer in White River and Union Townships and he proudly owned and operated the Outback Fence Company for 30 years. He mastered the art of raising sweet corn and sold the best in Johnson County in recent years.

Duane and Melinda enjoyed Sunday breakfast at Green Hill Diner, finding good antique stores in small towns, and fishing trips to Minnesota, even if the company was better than the fishing. He spent many weekends traveling to tractor shows and car shows, showing off his 1976 Trans Am with a 455 engine. More than these, his favorite moments were when his family spent time together.

He passionately served the agriculture community of Johnson County. He was currently on the board of directors for the Johnson County Farm Bureau and a member of the Johnson County Beef Cattle Association. He formally served as a member of the Johnson County 4-H Extension Board and the Johnson County Antique Machinery Association.

Duane was loyal to the Allis-Chalmers brand of farm machinery and in 2023, the 100th anniversary of the Gleaner Combine, he was asked by AGCO to bring his vintage Gleaner A combine with a Hercules engine to the National FFA Convention at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis.

Survivors include his wife Melinda Ann (Dougherty) Plummer of Bargersville, IN, his son Levi Plummer (Mary) of Needham, IN, his daughter Makayla Plummer (Cam Way) of Nashville, IN, his mother-in-law Margaret A. (Lautenbach) Dougherty of Greenwood, IN, and his many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his trusty sidekicks Daisy, Balto and Precious.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Marie Diane Plummer on June 19, 2020 and his brother Danny Bryce Plummer on July 1, 2024.

Visitation will take place Monday, December 29, 2025 from 4PM until 8PM at the mortuary.

Pastor Dustin Hite will conduct a service on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at 10:30 AM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN and will be live-streamed at www.swartzmortuary.com/obituary/duaneplummer.

Burial will follow at the Harris Cemetery in Union Township, Bargersville, IN.
