Effie Marie
Hogue
April 15, 1950 — July 21, 2023
Whiteland
It is with great sadness we share the passing of Effie Marie Hogue of Whiteland, IN on July 21, 2023 at the age of 73. She was born on April 15, 1950, to Malcom and Bernice (Outcalt) Lowes in Indianapolis, IN. She spent her youth helping on the Lowes Happy Hen Farm where they raised over 5,000 chickens and supplied local fresh eggs to the area. Marie was also kind and generous in helping those in need, leading her to graduate from University of Indianapolis School of Nursing in 1970. She went on to work as a surgical RN for 44 years until her retirement.
She enjoyed spending her days mowing grass, tending to her beautiful flowers, reading books, traveling, playing the piano, walking the neighborhood and spending time with her little Yokie, Max. She never missed a good firework display in the summer and spent the winters finding the brightest Christmas lights. She also rarely missed a Friday breakfast with friends at Denny's. She was an active member of Victory Baptist Church in Whiteland, IN. Throughout her dedicated life to her faith she could be found teaching Sunday school or volunteering anywhere the church needed her.
Marie is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 42 years Tom Hogue, her daughter Jessica Hall (Matt) of Greenwood, IN, and her beautiful granddaughters Addison, Trinity and Kylie. She was preceded in death by her parents Malcolm and Bernice (Outcalt) Lowes, her sisters Mary Tolle and Marcia Lowes and a brother James Lowes. She deeply loved her family including all her beautiful extended families and friends.
We would like to share our sincerest gratitude to her Heart Center medical team and Franciscan Hospice House. A special thank you to Kevin, Taylor, Makayla, Jenna, Samantha, Emily, Yvonne, Bridget and Kim, thank you for taking care of her physical heart and filling ours at the same time.
She will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
Her heart of this world may have failed but her love and faith were incredibly strong:
When peace, like a river attendeth my way,
When sorrow like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say, It is well, it is well, with my soul.
