Obituary

Emmalyn Jane Collins was born on May 15th, 2019, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana to her father and mother, Jacob and Loren (Sargent) Collins.  She came into this world in a burst of fire and spirit, and she kept both until her very last day on Wednesday June 28, 2023 when she entered the gates of heaven into the arms of Jesus.

To know Emmalyn was to love her.  Her smile was addicting, and she had a magic way of making you feel like you would do anything to see that smile again.  She was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at the age of nine months old, but was never defined by her disability.  She channeled that loveable smile and fiery spirit into hard work and the biggest, happiest squeaks of joy you could imagine.  She loved her people desperately and was motivated by their pride and encouragement.  She touched the lives of every single person she met and quickly won the hearts of family, friends, and strangers alike.  Emmalyn is loved most by her Mama, Daddy, Nana, Poppy, Queenie, Papaw, Uncle Bird, Aunt Meg, Aunt Michaela, cousin Sage, and baby brother Theo.

Emmalyn challenged our perception of the world.  She redefined our definitions of strength, beauty, and worth.  She invited us to reevaluate the world through a lens of love and inclusivity. She leaves behind a devoted family and community committed to honoring her life by improving the lives of others and advocating for those that deserve more that the world has given them.

Her life will be celebrated on July 3rd, 2023, at 10am. The service will be held at LifePoint Church, 8540 Combs Road in Indianapolis, Indiana.  To those who choose to attend, the family asks that you wear bright colors to celebrate the vibrancy that Emmalyn brought to this world. Her favorite colors were purple, red, orange, and pink.  All are welcome.

In lieu of flowers and gifts, please consider donating in Emmalyn's memory to the Johnson County Community Foundation, where all funds donated in her name will be made into an account to be put towards creating inclusive playgrounds and accessible spaces where all children can experience the joy of play.  Online donations can be made at https://www.jccf.org/give-one-time, to the existing fund of Emmalyn Jane Collins.
