Frederick Thomas Horsley, age 88, passed away on December 28, 2025 at his home in The Woodlands, Texas.
He was born on August 26, 1937 in Indianapolis, IN, a son of Wilfred Howard Horsley and Mary Ellen Everts. Fred touched the lives of everyone who knew him and became the patriarch of the large Horsley family. His siblings from Wilfred and Mary Ellen include Shirley Gregory, Deloras Lawson, Judith Gibbons, Karen Pieper, Stephen Horsley, Bonnie Kirkbride, Dixie Rowe, and Kristyne Grayson.
While attending Warren Central High School, Fred shined in varsity football, basketball, and track. After high school graduation, Fred got his start in real estate developing and home building in the 1950s in Indianapolis. He made a successful career that spanned over decades and multiple states. His hard work ethic and drive for success in everything he did created a life he was proud of.
Fred had the opportunity to not only make his mark in Indiana, but also in Florida, Washington State, and Texas. He built homes, apartment complexes, mobile home parks, and developed subdivisions. His love for sports, fishing, horse shows, playing cards, storytelling, traveling, and enjoying a good restaurant created a life where each day was worth living to the fullest.
Fred is survived by his wife, Susan (Dawson) Horsley of The Woodlands, TX his children and grandchildren. Children: Jennifer Watanabe (Mark) of Redmond, WA; Aaron Horsley (Kelly) of Carencro, LA; Maiellen Layton (Billy) of Indianapolis, IN; Dixie Roberts (Donnie) of The Woodlands, TX; and Kelsay Yerian (Matt) of The Woodlands, TX. Grandchildren: Sam Watanabe, Joel Watanabe (Sydney), Ben Horsley (Barbie), Nick Horsley (Amanda), Alyvia Layton, Vivian Roberts, Ethan Roberts, Ayda Yerian, and Alayna Yerian.
His friends in Texas who he played bridge with will remember him fondly as Five Diamond Fred.
The Reverend Shan Rutherford will conduct a service on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at 1:30PM (EST TIME) at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN 46131 and will be live-streamed at www.swartzmortuary.com/obituary/frederickhorsley. Visitation will take place Saturday, January 10, 2026 from 12PM Noon until service time at the mortuary. Burial will follow the service at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin, IN.
