Obituary

Gary Lee Frye of Greenwood, Indiana passed away peacefully at his home on July 6, 2025, at the age of 64.  He was born on January 4, 1961, in Franklin, Indiana, to Thelma and Charles "Charlie" Frye Jr. and Thelma Pauline (Dewbrew) Frye, was raised in Greenwood, Indiana and graduated from Greenwood Community High School in 1979.

Gary honorably served in the United States Air Force from 1981 to 1985.  Over the years, he held various jobs, including landscaping, but his heart was always drawn to serving others.  In 2012, he began regularly attending Emmanuel Church, a decision that marked the beginning of a life-changing journey of faith.  Gary was serving at Emmanuel Church and later joined the staff at Emmanuel Church, where he dedicated himself to serving in children's ministry and faithfully volunteered at summer camps each year.

Gary met the love of his life, Nicole, while working at FedEx.  They were married on September 6, 2015, and together built a life rooted in love, faith, and shared purpose.  He had a deep love for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, hiking, and exploring nature.  However, his greatest joy came from spending time with his children and grandchildren.  Gary will be remembered for his kind and generous spirit, unwavering faith, and the deep love he had for his family and community.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Frye Jr. and Thelma Pauline (Dewbrew) Frye, brother John Frye, his grandparents, Charles and Christina Frye, and Elmer and Pauline Dewbrew; his grandchild, Blake Sutherlin; and his niece, Rachel Golden.

Gary is survived by his loving wife, Nicole Frye of Greenwood, Indiana; his brothers, James Frye (Sharon) of Jacksonville, Florida; Larry Frye (Kim) of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; and Terry Frye (Carolyn) of Atlanta, Georgia.  He is also survived by his children: Andrew Frye (Stacey) of Wellington, New Zealand, Tiffany Sutherlin (Jordan) of Greenwood, Indiana, Sabrina Herthel of Martinsville, Indiana, and Justin Sung of Greenwood, Indiana.

He leaves behind five beloved grandchildren: Audrey and Elijah Frye, Charles and Chelsea Sutherlin, Tobias Glendy, as well as several nieces and nephews.
