George R. Phillips, 74, of Franklin, Indiana, passed away on June 5, 2026.  He was born on August 2, 1951, and grew up in Shelby County, graduating from Southwestern Shelby County High School.

George lived a life defined by dedication, loyalty, and a strong work ethic.  He served his country with honor in the Army National Guard, as a wheel and truck mechanic, from 1970 to 1977.  Professionally, he spent 33 years as a tool and die  maker, a trade he took great pride in, followed by six years as a truck driver, enjoying the independence of the open road.

On July 8, 2009, George married Linda S. Vaughn in Flagstaff, Arizona, beginning a chapter filled with companionship and shared adventures.  George loved NASCAR and was an avid sports fan.  He absolutely loved watching his grandchildren play sports.

George is survived by his wife Linda Phillips, his children Chris (Carolyn) Phillips of Franklin, IN, Jeff (Sandi) Phillips of Martinsville, IN, and
Lisa (Jon) Overby of Allenhurst, GA. and his sisters, Judy Charles and Janet Pfifer.

He was a proud grandfather to Wyatt Phillips, Kelsey Overby, Shelby Overby, Mikayla Overby, Savannah Overby, Taylor Phillips, and Emma Overby, and he was blessed with eight great‑grandchildren.

George was preceded in death by his parents, George and Carrie Phillips, and his brothers, Charles and Michael Phillips.

A gathering of family and friends will be on Monday, June 15, 2026 From 4:00 PM until 7:00PM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN .
