Glen Dale Combs, 83 of Indianapolis, IN passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2022. He was born December 20, 1938, in Rockford, IN to Glenn Stanley Combs and Beulah Mary (Newkirk) Combs. Glen married the love of his life, Linda Ann (Henkle) Combs on September 10, 1961, in Seymour, IN; she survives.
Glen was a 1956 graduate of Shields High School and a 1965 graduate of Purdue University. He received a degree in Industrial Management from the Krannert School of Management. He retired in 1993 from Allison Transmission as a Superintendent.
He has two sons, Michael Glen Combs (Lynn) of Greenwood, IN and Douglas Donald Combs (Julie) of Indianapolis, IN. He also has a daughter, Lisa Combs York (Rob) of Saratoga, CA. Glen enjoyed coaching his children's sports teams and teaching each of his kids the game of golf.
Papa Combs was extremely proud of each and every one of his grandchildren. He enjoyed watching them doing their activities and sitting in his big chair listening to their stories. He will be missed by Hunter Combs, Alexandria Wheeler (Ben), Matt Combs, Andrew York, William Combs, Connor Combs, Nicholas Combs, and Harrison Combs.
Glen is survived by one brother, David Combs of South Bend, IN. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Mark Combs and Casey Combs.
Glen served proudly in the US Army Reserves from 1960-1968, finishing with the rank of First Lieutenant. Finally, any discussion would not be complete without talking about his love of the game of golf. Glen was a four-year letter winner in high school and accepted a scholarship to play golf at Purdue University. He received many awards as a young golfer, including being State Junior Champion of Indiana in 1955. He still has the press clipping from when he finished higher than Jack Nicklaus at a National Junior event in South Dakota. To this day, Glen holds the course record at Seymour Country Club; an 18-hole score of 61 that was set in 1958.
