Glenda Lou
Sanders
April 4, 1943 — May 3, 2023
Franklin
On April 4, 1943, an amazing woman who would go on to live a wonderfully full life, was born in Johnson County to the late Geneva (Bray) Bowen and Ivan Woodall, and they named her Glenda Lou. Glenda Lou Sanders of Franklin, IN passed away on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at Otterbein SeniorLife Community in Franklin, IN.
Glenda would very proudly tell you she was the oldest of 10 kids. She leaves behind her brothers Billy Woodall (Joy) of Whiteland, IN, Arlen Woodall (Brenda) of Trafalgar, IN and David Woodall (Pam) of North Vernon, IN and sisters Patty Bechert (Joe) of Franklin, IN, Margaret Paris of Shelbyville, IN, Becky Black (Jim) of Franklin, IN and Brenda Caldwell (Jim) of Shelbyville, IN and many, many, nieces and nephews. In heaven, she has reunited with her brother Danny Woodall and sister Mary Richards along with her parents.
She married her former spouse Richard D. Sanders on May 7, 1960 and they were married for 42 years, he preceded her in death on August 7, 2006.
Glenda was most proud of being a mother to two children. Her first was a son, Rick Sanders of Franklin, IN. She then had "her baby" as she would call her, Vacinda Hamm (Rick) of Franklin, IN. Her daughter walked beside her during every step of this horrible disease we call dementia and they were no doubt best friends. However, Glenda's favorite child was her dog Abby, her companion for 7 years, who she loved fiercely and who really never left her side.
She was a very loving grandmother of 6, Alisha Pickerel (Brandon) of Trafalgar, IN, Stephanie Hamm (Michael Daugherty) of Franklin, IN, Zach Hamm (Taylor) of Southport, IN, Jason Sanders of Edinburgh, IN, Krystal Sanders of Franklin, IN and Seth Sanders of Bargersville, IN, and great-grandmother to Emilee and Kinlee Pickerel, Hudson Waltz, Alice Hamm and Jada and Marshall Sanders. HOWEVER, Stephanie was her favorite and she wasn't shy about it.
Along with being a farm wife, mother and grandmother, Glenda also had managed Bargersville Restaurant, Roto Grill, and the jewelry and makeup departments at L.S. Ayres where she would also model their clothes for buyers. She took pride in always looking her best and also kept her home that same way. She had quite the green thumb; her flowers and gardens were something to be admired. She was the true definition of "mother".
Glenda's nephew, Pastor Billy Ballenger, will conduct a celebration of life service at 2pm on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN 46131 and will be live-streamed at www.swartzmortuary.com . The family will receive friends from 11am until service time at the mortuary. Burial will follow the service at Second Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Franklin, IN.
Memorial contributions can be made to Main Street Hospice, 10 Highland Ave, Franklin, IN
