Harold Edward Gommel Jr., 75, of Greenwood, IN passed away on Monday, July 27, 2026 at Franciscan Health in Indianapolis, IN.
He was born on May 7, 1951 in Columbus, IN to Harold Edward Gommel and Colleen Elizabeth “Gommie” (Beck) Gommel. Harold married Barbara Jo (Cain) Gommel on November 27, 1971 in Hartford City, IN, she survives.
He was a graduate of Columbus North High School and attended Indiana State University.
Harold was a United States Army Veteran having served 20 years and 9 days. He later worked as a shift coordinator for Rexam in Franklin, IN.
He was a member of Sts. Francis and Clare Catholic Church in Greenwood.
Harold enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his fur baby dog “Sawyer” and his family.
Survivors include his wife Barbara Jo (Cain) Gommel of Greenwood, IN, his daughter Elizabeth J. Shelley (Jonathan) of Franklin, IN, four grandchildren A J Gommel (Laura), Dustin Patterson (Jody Barton), Averie Watts (Chase) and Derek Shelley (Tiffany Bailon), his sister Marcia K. Parrott of Columbus, IN.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Mark Douglas Gommel.
Father Isaac Siefker will conduct a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, July 31, 2026 at 11:30 AM at Sts. Francis and Clare Catholic Church, 5901 Olive Branch Road, Greenwood, IN.
Family will receive friends from 11AM until service time at the church.
Ennichement will follow the service at the Sts. Francis and Clare Catholic Church Columbarium with military honors conducted by the United States Army Honor Guard and Franklin American Legion Post 205 Honor Guard.
Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN is handling the arrangements.
