Helen Joann (Catt) Esteb, 89, of Whiteland, IN passed away on October 12, 2023 surrounded by her family at Franciscan Hospice House in Indianapolis, IN. This would have been their 71st wedding anniversary.
She was born on March 18, 1934 to Lowell and Elsie (Merrick) Catt in Franklin, IN.
Joann was a 1952 graduate of Franklin High School.
She married Ray D. Esteb on October 12, 1952 at Hopewell Presbyterian Church in Franklin, IN. She was a longtime member of Hopewell Presbyterian Church.
Joann was a farm wife, homemaker and employed over 25 years by the United States Postal Service as a rural letter carrier in Greenwood, IN.
She enjoyed sewing, counted cross-stitch, working jigsaw puzzles, bowling, bunco and bingo at the Greenwood Senior Citizens Center. Joann was also a member of Jolly 12 Ladies Euchre Club. She was a past member of Johnson County Extension Homemakers. She just recently received her 50-year pin as a member of the National Rural Letter Carriers' Association.
Survivors include her daughter Donna McElwain (Mike) of Greenwood, IN, two sons David Esteb (Janet) of Franklin, IN and Rob Esteb (Lora) of Needham, IN, three grandchildren Brian Esteb (Melissa) of Franklin, IN, Jill Hockemeyer (Chad) of Columbia City, IN and Shawn Esteb (Logan Woster) of Greenwood, IN, three great granddaughters Catelynn Hockemeyer, Cortney Hockemeyer both of Columbia City, IN and Thea Woster of Greenwood, IN, one sister Jean Williams of Franklin, IN.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ray D. Esteb on September 11, 2014, her son Ray Donald Esteb II on July 27, 1967, a brother James Catt and a sister Alice Jane Woelfel.
Reverend Brandon Jolley will conduct a service on Monday, October 16, 2023 at 10:30 AM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN and will be live-streamed at www.swartzmortuary.com. Friends may call Sunday, October 15, 2023 from 2PM until 6PM at the mortuary and from 9:30 until service time on Monday. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery.
The family request memorial contributions be made to Hopewell Presbyterian Church, 677 St. Road 144, Franklin, IN 46131.
