Obituary

Ina Lou (Tackett) Smith, 102, of Franklin and former longtime resident of Providence, IN passed away Thursday, July 17, 2025 at Homeview Health and Rehabilitation Center in Franklin, IN.

She was born April 10, 1923 in the Banta Community of Johnson County, IN to Leslie and Rebecca "Becky" (Russell) Tackett.  Ina Lou married Livy E. Smith on May 4, 1941 in Franklin, IN; he preceded her in death on October 28, 2007.

Ina Lou was a graduate of Center Grove High School.

She, alongside her husband, owned and operated the IGA grocery store in Providence, IN from 1949 until 1959 and had farmed with him on their farm in Providence for 85 years.

Ina Lou was a member of Providence Christian Church and Union Village Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #582 in Providence.

Survivors include her daughter Diana F. Bright of North Vernon, IN, her daughter-in-law Judy Smith of Franklin, IN, her grandchildren Mark Smith (Carrie) of Sarasota, FL, Lisa L. Bradley (Ken) of Trafalgar, IN, April L. Richardson (Tom) of Union, Kentucky, A.J. Bright (Samantha) of North Vernon, IN and Casey R. Bright (Sherry) of North Vernon, IN, great-grandchildren Cameron Bates, Macy Bates, Callee Bates, Sydnee Bates, Brady Bates, Natasha Bruce Timmons, Colton Bright, Kionna Bright , Payton Bright, Kyle Bradley (Chelsea) of Trafalgar, IN and Kaleb Bradley (Shalee) of Trafalgar, IN, Mitchell Smith (Cailin) of Bargersville, IN and Michaela White (Tyler) of St. Louis, MO, great-great-grandchildren Kennedy Bradley, Baylor Bradley, Brody Bradley, Kollyns Bradley and Emersyn "Emmie" Bradley, Decker Smith, Dryden Smith, Tatum White and Lainee Mae Bates.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son Eddy O. Smith on April 19, 2022 and a son-in-law Gary B. Bright on January 9, 2003.

The Reverend Dr. Steve Sorensen will conduct a service on Monday, July 28, 2025 at 1PM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN and will be live-streamed at www.swartzmortuary.com/obituary/inalousmith.  Friends may call Monday, July 28, 2025 from 11AM until service time at the mortuary.  Burial will follow the service at Harris Cemetery in Union Township, Johnson County, IN.
