Obituary

James Arthur Johnson, age, 76, of Bargersville, IN died the 25th of January in Greenwood, Indiana.  He was born August 4, 1948, in Paxton, IL. He was the son of Clarence Oliver (Pete) Johnson and Marjorie Mae (Gustafson) Johnson and lived most of his childhood in Pittsfield, IL.

Jim represented his country honorably for 3 years with the United States Army, serving one tour of duty during the Vietnam War in Cu Chi and an additional year in Germany as an SP/4 member of the 1st Cavalry.  He was awarded the 1st Battalion 22nd Artillery certificate of achievement for meritorious service from 4 April 1970 to 3 March 1971.

Jim was baptized at Madison Park Christian Church in Quincy, IL.  Jim moved to St. Charles, IL in 1975 where he and his wife bought a house and raised their 3 children.  He attended Fox Valley Christian Church in Batavia, IL.  Jim retired from Burgess Norton in Geneva, IL after 30 years in 2007.  After retirement, Jim moved to Grayslake, IL and was a member of First Christian Church of Kenosha, WI for 7 years.

Jim enjoyed playing pool with his new friends at Carillon North.  Then he moved to Bargersville, Indiana in 2019 to be near his grandsons.  He was a loyal Chicago Bears fan as well as a die-hard and devoted Chicago White Sox fan.  Jim also was a hockey fan, where he closely followed the Chicago Blackhawks and he also loved the St. Louis Blues.  He took pleasure in watching NASCAR and IndyCar races.  Jim was an encyclopedia of sports facts and statistics.  He loved to read about the local high school and college sports teams in Illinois.  Mostly, Jim loved spending time with family and friends, talking, playing games, and providing endless laughs.

Jim is survived by his wife of 49 years, Rhonda Ellen (Long) Johnson; his family, Heather Joy (Johnson) Deegan (husband, Rick; their sons, Tristan and Logan) of Trevor, WI, Todd Charles Johnson (wife, Shari; their daughter, Charlotte and son, Jacob) of Indian Land, SC, and Nicole Marie (Johnson) Groeper (husband, Jon; their sons Justin, Derek, and Travis) of Bargersville, IN; his brothers Dale Johnson of Cincinnati, OH and Ronald Johnson of Hamilton, Ontario; as well as one nephew, Scott Johnson of Mason, OH.
