James "Jim" Scott Perkins, 88, of Greenwood, IN formerly of Franklin, IN passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2026 at Greenwood Meadows in Greenwood, IN.
He was born February 8, 1938 in South Bend, IN to Lloyd T. Perkins and Mary (Ash) Perkins. He married Karen (Beaty) Perkins on August 10, 1996 at the Community Church of Greenwood, she survives.
Jim was a United States Navy Veteran.
He had worked for Amtrak in the maintenance facility in Beech Grove, IN for 20 years. He previously had worked for Ridge Homes coming from Baltimore, Maryland in the early 1970's to Franklin, IN.
Jim was a member of Mt. Pleasant Christian Church in Greenwood and a former member of the Community Church of Greenwood. He was also a member of the Chordlighters and the Barber Shop Society.
He enjoyed spectator sports, golf, football, and basketball. Jim in his earlier years, enjoyed coin and stamp collecting and was an avid Notre Dame fan and collecting anything Notre Dame.
His favorite places were volunteering at Hickory Stick Golf Club, Myrtle Beach, and Red Fox Country Club.
Survivors include his wife Karen (Beaty) Perkins of Greenwood, IN, his son John J.R. Perkins of Snoqualmie, WA, step-children Rachelle Gesse Vaught (Deric) of Greenwood, IN and J. Tyler Gesse (Ashley) of Winter Park, FL, grandchildren Deric A. Vaught of Greenwood, IN, Morgan A. Vaught of Greenwood, IN, Zoe Perkins of Snoqualmie, WA and Landon J. Gesse of Winter Park, FL, two brothers Larry Perkins (Cyndee) of Bonita Springs, FL and Tom Perkins (Linda) of Ft. Myers, FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Randy Perkins and Jeff Perkins.
Pastor Bill Turner will conduct a service on Saturday, May 30, 2026 at 3PM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN and will be live-streamed at www.swartzmortuary.com/obituary/jamesperkins.
Visitation will be on Saturday, May 30, 2026 from 1PM until service time at the mortuary.
Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin, IN.
