James J. Williams Sr., 86, of Greenwood, IN passed away on Monday, February 9, 2026 at Greenwood Village South in Greenwood, IN.
He was born February 21, 1939 in Indianapolis, IN to Charles Williams and Janice (Boffo) Williams. He married Betty L. (Blaich) Williams on July 30, 1980 in Perry Township, Marion County, IN, she survives.
James was a graduate of Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis, IN. He was a United States Army Veteran.
He had been a driver for 40 years for Stark and Wetzel in Indianapolis, IN and later for Campbell's 66 Truck Lines and Preston Truck Lines. After retirement, he worked for Perry Township Schools as a bus driver and as a grounds keeper.
James was a member of Southport United Methodist Church, a fifty-year member of Prospect Masonic Lodge #714 in Indianapolis, Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis and the Murat Shrine Temple. He was also an active member of the Greenwood Community Band.
He enjoyed sporting events, music, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Betty L. (Blaich) Williams of Greenwood, IN, sons James J. Williams Jr.(Debbie) of Indianapolis, IN and Jon Williams of Indianapolis, IN, stepchildren Terri, Lisa, Jerry (Michelle), Eric, Laura (Matt) and Jennifer (Greg), several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Jeffrey Williams, a sister Marg Harris (Roy Dale Harris – brother-in-law) and Max Williams (Norma).
Pastor Bill Turner will conduct a private service on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN.
Burial will follow the service at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Greenwood, IN.
