Janice Louise (Wise) Clark, 92, of Franklin, IN, a woman whose work ethic was surpassed only by the size of her heart, passed away leaving behind a legacy of growth, grit, and grace on Wednesday, April 22, 2026. She was born in Greenwood, Indiana, on November 12, 1933, to the late Stella Hague Wise, Janice spent her life proving that "sunup to sundown" wasn't just a schedule—it was a calling.

A pillar of the community for 40 years, Janice was the true backbone of Bud's Bait and Tackle in Nineveh. While the sign may have carried her husband's name, the life of the business grew from Janice's hands. She transformed the shop into a local landmark, managing a comprehensive bait and tackle operation, a vibrant fruit and vegetable stand and a full-service greenhouse featuring bedding flowers, hanging plants, and a vast selection of seeds.

Known as a true floral expert, customers traveled from near and far specifically for Janice's advice. Whether they were planting a simple garden or a complex landscape, they trusted her eye and her wisdom above all others.

The heart of the home, Janice's legendary work ethic didn't stop at the shop door. She was widely considered the "hardest working woman in the world," raising her family while preparing three home-cooked meals every single day.

Her culinary skills were unmatched, particularly her ability to cook wild game and fresh-caught fish. However, it was her famous pies that earned her a permanent place in the hearts (and stomachs) of everyone who knew her.

Faith, family, and favorites beyond the greenhouse and the kitchen, Janice found joy in the simple things. She was a devoted fan of Bobby Knight and Pete Rose, and she never tired of a good Western or the company of her beloved pups. Her perfect meal was a simple one: bluegills, shrimp, and fresh tomatoes.

Family legacy, Janice was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 65 years, Bud Clark; her mother, Stella; and her siblings William Wise, Phyliss Fulmer, Jeff Wise, and Karen Crowe. She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Reay Fagg.

She is survived by her children: Paul (Elaine) Clark of Nashville, IN, Julie Fagg of Prairie Creek, IN, and Jon Clark of Franklin, IN, her brother Bob Wise of Florida, her grandchildren, 7 cherished grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren who will carry on her lessons of hard work and kindness.

Janice Louise Clark will be deeply missed, but every time a flower blooms in Nineveh or a pie is shared among family, her spirit will be there.

Pastor Tom Williams will conduct a service on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 at 11AM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN and will be live-streamed at www.swartzmortuary.com/obituary/janiceclark .  A luncheon will be provided following the service at the Nineveh Senior Center, 3208 Rodeo Drive in Nineveh, IN. Visitation will be Monday, April 27, 2026 from 4PM until 8 PM at the mortuary.  Burial will be at Vernon Cemetery in Vernon, IN.
