Jayne Marie (Carter) Browning, age 79, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2025 at IU Health Methodist Hospice in Indianapolis, Indiana.

She was born on January 27, 1946, to the late Joseph and Betty (Turner) Carter in Hammond, Indiana. Jayne was their only child, cherished and deeply loved throughout her life.

Jayne was known for her generous spirit, kind heart, and fun-loving nature. She devoted her life to helping others and volunteering her time to her community as a 52-year member of Psi Iota Xi Sorority, Zeta Epsilon Chapter, Bargersville, Indiana. Whether through her service or friendships, she was always offering warmth, encouragement, and laughter.

A proud 1964 graduate of Center Grove High School, Jayne went on to attend Indiana University, where her lifelong love of IU basketball was born. She was a true Hoosier fan through and through. One of her greatest joys was maintaining close friendships with her Center Grove classmates. For over 61 years, she cherished monthly breakfast gatherings with them, creating memories that spanned a lifetime.

Jayne is survived by her daughter, Kristi (Gary) Nolker of North Vernon, and her son, Kyle (Angie) Browning of Bargersville, Indiana. She was a proud Grammy to Jared (Kendra) Nolker of Columbus, Indiana, Shelbi (Dakota) Burke of Seymour, Indiana, and Taylor Browning (Tyler Carson) of New Whiteland, Indiana. Jayne was also blessed with two great-grandsons, Grayson and Oliver Burke, of Seymour, who brought her tremendous joy.

She dedicated part of her career to the Indianapolis Airport Authority and later retired from Clark Pleasant School Corporation, where she left a positive impact on all who worked alongside her.

In addition to her love of IU basketball, Jayne enjoyed playing cards, reading, tending to her flower gardens, and spending time with her cherished Bunco group and her neighbors.

Jayne's legacy of kindness and love will live on through her family and all who had the honor of knowing her.

Reverend Shan Rutherford will conduct a service at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 S. Morton St., Franklin, IN 46131. In addition to the service, Psi Iota Xi Sorority will conduct a memorial service to honor Jayne.  These services will be live streamed at www.swartzmortuary.com/JayneMarieBrowning.

Burial will take place on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at 10:00 A.M at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood, Indiana.

Memorials may be directed to Johnson County Senior Services to provide free transportation, food, & medical supplies for seniors in need.
