Jerome Charles "Charlie" Pogue, 81, of Greenwood, IN passed away Monday, June 26, 2023 at Franciscan Hospice House in Indianapolis, IN.

He was born February 27, 1942 at St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove, IN to Charles Edgar Pogue and Georgiana M. (Steinke) Pogue.  He married JoAnn (Strebel) Pogue on July 9, 1966 at St. Jude Catholic Church in Indianapolis, IN, she survives.

Charlie was a 1960 graduate of Scecina High School in Indianapolis, IN.

He had been a security guard for Eli Lilly and Company in Indianapolis, IN for thirty-seven and half years retiring in 1998.

Charlie was a charter member of Sts. Francis and Clare Catholic Church in Greenwood, IN where he had served as an usher for several years and a member of the J.O.Y. (Just Older Youth) at the church.  He also enjoyed doing adoration each Wednesday.

Hobbies he enjoyed were cards and board games, playing pool with friends and grandchildren, and shooting basketball with the neighborhood kids.  He was a big fan of Bing Crosby music as well as many other artists.  Along with his wife JoAnn, they enjoyed square dancing with the "Lucky Squares" of Greenwood.  They even got their son and daughter to join.  When he retired from Eli Lilly and Company, he maintained contact with many friends by joining them at Lilly's for lunch.  Charlie was a fan of the Indianapolis Indians and along with his wife, friends and grandchildren, attended many games.

He along with his wife JoAnn enjoyed cruises to the Caribbean Islands and Alaska.  Charlie and JoAnn also enjoyed a pilgrimage to the Holy Land with Archbishop Daniel M. Buechlein in 2008, as well as a pilgrimage to Italy with parish members and Father Vincent Lampert in 2011.

Survivors include his wife JoAnn (Strebel) Pogue of Greenwood, IN, his daughter Michelle Grelle (Wayne) of Indianapolis, IN, a son Michael Pogue (Angie) of Indianapolis, IN, grandchildren Nicholas, Gabrielle, Alexander, Victor, Vincent, Cassidy, Evan, Nick and Natalie, sisters Carol Pogue of Indianapolis, IN and Martha "Janie" Mack (Gary) of Greenwood, IN.

He was preceded in death by his father Charles E. Pogue, mother Georgiana (Steinke) Pogue, sisters Barbara Jenkins and Jennifer Quinn.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 7th, 2023 from 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM, at Sts. Francis and Clare Catholic Church, 5901 Olive Branch Road, Greenwood, IN 46143.  Father Stephen Giannini will conduct a Mass of Christian Burial immediately following visitation, at 11:30 AM.  Entombment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Indianapolis, IN.
