Obituary

Jimmy "Jim" Dale Barley, 87, of Morgantown, IN passed away Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at the Indiana Masonic Home at Compass Park in Franklin, IN with his loving wife by his side.

Jim was born June 1, 1935 in Sandborn, IN to Carter and Mary (Bray) Barley.

He was a 1953 graduate of Elnora High School in Elnora, IN.

Jim started his career as a lineman for L.E. Myers in Indianapolis, IN, later as a maintenance foreman for Public Service Indiana in Batesville, IN and was a field engineer and maintenance foreman for Public Service Indiana in Franklin for 25 years.  He was also a working foreman for Hoosier Energy for 25 years.  Many of his co-workers knew Jim as a jokester and a storyteller.

He also owned and operated along with his former wife Patricia, the Morgantown Grain Elevator for ten years alongside farming and raising hogs and cattle near Trafalgar, IN.

He enjoyed traveling and spending winters in Texas and Florida with his wife Marge.  He also enjoyed farming, gardening, and spending time with his work friends.  Jim was a member of First Baptist Church in Martinsville, IN, the Nineveh Masonic Lodge #317, Indianapolis Valley of Scottish Rite and Murat Shrine.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years Marjorie (Morris) Findley Barley of Morgantown, IN whom he married on February 13, 1982 in Louisville, KY, daughters Lisa Yoder (Steve) of Morgantown, IN, Kelly DeWitt (Joe) of Greenwood, IN, son Robert Barley (Kristi) of Terre Haute, IN, grandchildren Justin Lewis of Kentucky, Robbie Hash (Stephanie) of Greenwood, IN, Nikki Himebaugh (Sam) of Morgantown, IN, Paula Neibert (Jerremy) of Morgantown, IN, Tyler Barley (Carly) of Greenwood, IN, Matthew Barley (Abigail Gazvoda) of St. Louis, MO, great-grandchildren Jackson, Lucas and Ella Neibert, Evelyn Himebaugh, Logan and Sophie Hash, stepchildren Jess Findley (Andrea) of Bargersville, IN, Kevin Findley (Suzanne) of Franklin, IN, Wade Findley (Donna) of Franklin, IN, Tim Findley (Karen) of Bargersville, IN, Jennifer Krasson (Bart) of Cave Creek, AZ, Sue Ann Findley of Nashville, IN and Lisa Findley of Franklin, IN, step-grandchildren Brandi Brown, Jinger Utterback, Melinda Lloyd, Bridget Kern, Cal Findley, Alison Betts, Chad Findley, Angela Woodson, Megan Cominski, Meredith Skarin, Carey Findley and Casey Findley and several step-great-grandchildren.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Donald Lee Barley and a daughter Sherrie Ripley.

A Masonic service will be conducted by the Nineveh Masonic Lodge #317 on Friday, November 11, 2022 at 1PM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN with a service to immediately follow and being conducted by Pastor John Maples and will be live-steamed at www.swartzmortuary.com .  Friends may call from 10AM until the 1PM service on Friday, November 11, 2022 at the mortuary.  Burial will follow the service at Harris Cemetery in Union Township, Johnson County, IN.
