Obituary

Joan (Selch) Thompson, 92, lifelong resident of Union Township, Johnson County, Indiana passed away on Monday, April 6, 2026 at Homeview Health and Rehabilitation in Franklin, IN.

She was born August 4, 1933 at the farm she resided at her entire life in Union Township, Johnson County, IN to Cecil Selch and Thelma May (Baker) Selch.  Joan married Emery Gene Thompson on January 31, 1953 at Providence Christian Church in Union Township; he preceded her in death on September 13, 2015.

She was a 1951 graduate of Union High School.

Joan farmed alongside her husband and family her entire life.

She was a member of Providence Christian Church and the Progressive Farmers Club.  Joan loved the outdoor life and her flowers.

Survivors include her three sons Dr. Roger W. Thompson (Therese) of Daytona Beach, FL, Dr. Randy A. Thompson (Gina) of Taylorville, IL and Kevin Ray Thompson (Jeri) of Morgantown, IN, six grandchildren Ashley Thompson of Greenwood, IN, Callie Spillmann (Michael) of Bargersville, IN, Dr. Emily Thompson (Jason) of Oklahoma City, OK, Chase Thompson (Brittany)  of Dallas, TX, Dustin Thompson (Lauren) of Boston, MA, Maggie Scanlan (Patrick) of Orlando, FL, her great-grandchildren Drayce Thompson, Oliver Spillmann, Elsie Spillmann, Kyle Spillmann (Andie), Sawyer Thompson, Sage Thompson, Brody Thompson and two great grandchildren on their way.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and grandson Danny Thompson in 2014.

Dr. Steven Sorensen will conduct a service on Monday, April 13, 2026 at 12 PM Noon at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN and will be live-streamed at www.swartzmortuary.com/obituay/joanthompson.  Visitation will take place on Sunday, April 12, 2026 from 2PM until 5PM at the mortuary and Monday from 10AM until service time.

Burial will be at Harris Cemetery in Union Township, Johnson County, IN.
