Obituary

Joy Ann [Robinson] Stutsman, 80, of Greenwood, IN walked peacefully into the gates of heaven on Wednesday, June 28, 2023.

Joy was born March 14, 1943 in Miami, Florida to Frank E. Robinson and Ina Mae [Wicker] Robinson.  She married the love of her life, W. Earl Stutsman on August 18, 1962 at Calvary Baptist Church in Madison, IN.  They were happily married for over 60 years.

Joy Ann was a 1960 graduate and valedictorian of Vevay High School in Vevay, IN.  She attended Georgetown College and Hanover College for a short period before she felt God leading her to Bob Jones University in South Carolina.  Earl followed and they were married while he finished his degree.  After moving to Indianapolis, IN,  Joy finished her Business Education degree at Indiana Central, and earned her Masters degree from Indiana University, Bloomington.

She was a well-loved business teacher at Indianapolis Baptist High School where she taught typing, shorthand, and accounting.  She continued her career in the Indpls Public School system and retired from Manual High School after 33 years of teaching.

Joy's service for the Lord began as a young teenager when she started singing, playing piano, and even her accordion in church.  She remained a dedicated, evangelistic church pianist at Indianapolis Baptist Temple, Emmanuel Baptist, and Victory Baptist Church through her seventies.

Her mother led her to the Lord at the age of five and she committed her life to serving the Lord.  Joy began teaching in children's Sunday School, and was a great support to her husband who taught many Sunday School classes including the Junior High Dept at Baptist Temple, running 300 teens on some Sundays.  Together, Joy and Earl later served the Harvesters class and the Senior Adults class for decades at their respective churches.

Joy was known as GrandMom to all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She loved them well.  Everyone loved her pancakes, fried chicken and roast beef dinners, and homemade chocolate pie.  Her beautiful smile and devotion to her family and the Lord will not be forgotten.

Survivors include her husband W. Earl Stutsman of Greenwood, IN, two daughters Jennifer Booker [Ed] of Greenwood, IN and Janelle Young [Jon] of Indianapolis, IN, four grandchildren: Stacy Robinson [Jordan], Lauren Lenox [Ben], Stephen Booker, and Lance J. Young [Shelby]; seven great-grandchildren: Lydia, Lucy Joy, and Lana Lenox, Gracie, Ryker, and Reagan Young, and Miles Robinson, two brothers Dr. Robert J. Robinson [Gail] of Greenwood, IN and Cliff Robinson [Anna Belle] of Madison, IN, and several nieces and nephews.

Her parents preceded her in death.

Pastor Mark Felber will conduct a service on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at 2pm at Victory Baptist Church, 1340 E Tracy Road in Whiteland, IN. Visitation will be from 11am until service time at the church.  Burial will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Greenwood, IN.
