Julie Diane (McCarty) Dorrell, 73, of Spencer, IN and formerly of Greenwood, IN passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at Indiana University Health in Bloomington, IN.

She was born October 17, 1952 in Franklin, IN to Richard Mark McCarty and Carmelita Joan (Day) McCarty.  Julie married Wayne Ray Dorrell on July 12, 1970 at Mt. Pleasant Christian Church in Greenwood, IN, he survives.

She was a 1970 graduate of Center Grove High School

Julie had been a school bus driver for the Center Grove Community School Corporation for 25 years.  She also farmed alongside her husband Wayne and her family her entire life.

She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Survivors include her husband Wayne Ray Dorrell of Spencer, IN, her son Dustin W. Dorrell and his wife Yulia of Spencer, IN, her daughter Cassie J. Lett and her husband Timothy of Spencer, IN, her grandchildren Lawrence "Gus" Dorrell, Daniel Dorrell, Anna Dorrell, Maya Dorrell and Timmy Lett, her brother Richard Mark "Ricky" McCarty and his wife Debby of Greenwood, IN and several nieces and nephews.

Her parents preceded her in death.

A time of gathering and sharing will take place on Sunday, June 7, 2026 from 2PM until 4PM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN.

A private family inurnment will take place at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Greenwood, IN.
