Kathleen D.
James
May 16, 1958 — October 1, 2023
Mooresville
Kathleen Dawn (Eckart) James, aged 65 years of Mooresville, IN passed away peacefully at Franciscan Health in Indianapolis on October 1, 2023, surrounded by her husband and family. She was born in Franklin, Indiana on May 16, 1958 to Francis and Annie (Arthur) Eckart. She married her husband of 31 years, Dwayne James on December 6, 1991.
Kathy earned her Associate Degree in nursing from Parkview School of Nursing in Fort Wayne and, at age 60, proudly earned her Nurse Practitioner (NP) degree from Ball State University. She had a compassionate heart for people, particularly for her family and the underserved. In her final years, she served as a geriatric home care nurse and also a hospice nurse. She loved her family, never missing a birthday or anniversary, and cared deeply for their well-being and health with a nagging quality of devotion.
Kathy's old soul fueled her enthusiasm for antique collecting, building up an impressive collection of Roseville and Weller pottery, furniture and many other collectibles. Perhaps her greatest passion was for dogs, particularly greyhound rescues and dogs that nobody else would love (pooches with problems). In recent years, she started enjoying occasional trips to the casino with close friends, doing the Wheeler Mission Drumstick Dash at Thanksgiving and travel with her husband to Italy, England, Mexico and Alaska.
Kathy is survived by her husband, Dwayne S. James of Mooresville, IN, and his sons Derak James of Mooresville, IN and David James (Elizabeth) of San Antonio, TX and her brothers Robert (Laura) Eckart of Greenwood, IN, Lee Eckart (Barb) of Morgantown, IN, Jim Eckart (Bryn) of Newnan, GA and many nieces and nephews. Kathy was preceded in death by both parents, Francis and Annie (Arthur) Eckart.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, Indiana on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at 3:30 PM and will be live-streamed at www.swartzmortuary.com.
