Obituary

Kenneth W. Hughes, 67, of Franklin, IN passed away peacefully early on Thursday, December 12, 2024 at home with his wife and son Riley by his side and with so many family members visiting the prior day.

He was born December 5, 1957 in Beech Grove, IN to DJ Hughes and Margaret (Nohe) Hughes.  He married Angie Mardis on January 31, 2001 in Franklin, IN. They proudly resided at the Mardis Farm Homestead for the past 7 years.

Kenny attended Franklin Community Schools and Southern Baptist High School later joining the United States Navy.

Kenny worked alongside his father and best friend, his brother Joe, in the family pool business, Elegant Pool & Patio since 1979 until their Dad retired.  He went on to do his own concrete business and later partnering with another best friend Chance Whitney and continued the concrete legacy Specialty Concrete, working mostly in Johnson County, Indiana and many concrete creations for Duke Homes.

Kenny enjoyed hanging with his brother Joe in the barn drinking beer on any given night and especially the yearly Alabama fishing trips with all the Hughes men and many friends, in March each year.

Survivors include his wife Angie Mardis of Franklin, IN, his children Brooke Moore of Franklin, IN, Brandon Hughes (Candice) of Lynchburg, Virginia and Riley Hughes of Franklin, IN, grandchildren Jaylen Barnes (Dustin) Franklin, IN, Avery Hicks (Mason Mendoza) of Franklin, IN, Tres Oglesby of Franklin, IN, Mya Oglesby of Franklin, IN, Jordan Young, Abigail Hughes, Anna Hughes and Jack Hughes all of Lynchburg, VA, two great-grand grandchildren Desiree Barnes and Mateo Mendoza, his brothers Joe Hughes (Michele) of Franklin, IN and Tom Hughes (Jane) of Tustin, CA, his sisters Patti Freese (Norman) of Greenwood, IN, Mary McKinney (Mack) of Kirksville, MO and Debra Robbins (Gene) of Greenwood, IN and many nieces and nephews.

Kenny has joined his mother, father, our unborn baby and so many others gone before him and will be sorely missed here on earth by family and friends with wonderful memories.

He loved watching the Indianapolis Colts, Indiana Pacers, the Fever, and any sports he could find on the television.  Especially attending games in person with family and friends.  He also enjoyed many family and friend vacations over the years to Aruba, Barbados, and especially Florida with the Grill Bar Crew.

A service celebrating Kenny's life will be conducted on Sunday, December 29, 2024 at 2PM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN and will be live-streamed at www.swartzmortuary.com/obituary/kennethhughes.  Friends may call Saturday, December 28, 2024 from 4PM until 7PM at the mortuary and Sunday from 1PM until service time.  If you have a Specialty Concrete shirt, please wear it Saturday.
