Lula Jane McGaha

Lula Jane (Burton) McGaha, 90, of Franklin, IN passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2026.

She was born May 8, 1936 in Columbia, Kentucky to Ogel and Mary L. (McQuary) Burton. Lula married Roy McGaha on July 5, 1952 in Columbia, KY and moved to Edinburgh, IN; Roy preceded her in death on July 8, 2017.

She attended Purdy Schools in Purdy, KY where she loved school and was a cheerleader.

Lula had been an inspector for Alma Plastics in Edinburgh, IN for over 30 years. She previously had worked for the Morgan Canning Factory and Garment Factory both in Franklin, IN and was a housekeeper for the Hilltop Motel on U.S. 31 south in Franklin.

Lula spent her last three and a half years at Morning Pointe Assisted Living in Franklin, IN where she thoroughly enjoyed time with her new friends. She best loved bingo, cornhole, outings and the “Joy Rides”. She lost 3 of her new friends just recently -Jim “Jimbo”, Jean and Lillian.

She was the oldest member of Edinburgh Separate Baptist Church where she taught Bible School and assisted in the funeral meal ministry.

Survivors include her children Marcia Whited (Garnet) of Greenwood, IN, Sheila Doyle and Vickie Sinclair (David) both of Franklin, IN, Loretta McGaha (fiancé John Griswold) of Edinburgh, IN, Richard McGaha (April) of Edinburgh, IN, daughter-in-law Jacqueline L. “Jackie”(Whited) McGaha of Franklin, IN, 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, a brother Elbert Burton of Cincinnati, OH, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her son Randall Lee “Randy” McGaha on January 2, 2016, siblings Lester Burton, Raymond “Buttermilk” Burton, Rollin Burton, Ralph Burton, Lewis Burton, her sister Arlena Harmon and infant brother Ogel Burton Jr and her granddaughter's spouse Kirk Mulhauser.

Pastors Mark Polston and Danny Bailey will conduct a service on Monday, August 10, 2026 at 11AM at the Edinburgh Separate Baptist Church, 905 South Main Street, in Edinburgh, IN.

Friends may call Sunday, August 9, 2026 from 3PM until 7PM at the church and Monday from 10AM until service time at the church.

Burial will follow the service at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh, IN.
