Obituary

Luther "Luke" Oliver Jr., 75 of Franklin, IN passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and loved ones on Tuesday, November 18, 2025 at the Richard L. Roudebush Veterans Medical Center in Indianapolis, IN.

He was born July 22, 1950 in Hazard, Kentucky to Luther Oliver and Beatrice (Morris) Martin.  He married Linda A. (Truitt) Oliver on September 18, 2001 at Cottonwood Christian Church in Brown County, IN, she survives.

Luther was a United States Army Paratrooper and proudly served with the 173rd Airborne Brigade in the Vietnam War.

He retired as a job setter from Allison Transmission in Indianapolis after forty years of service.

Luther will be remembered for his bowling, playing softball, basketball, waterskiing and line dancing.  He also played semi-pro football.

Survivors include his wife Linda A. (Truitt) Oliver of Franklin, IN, his children Angela LaFever (Gary) of Greenwood, IN, Angel Beard (Jacob) of Plainfield, IN, Angie Fessel (Kevin) of Floyds Knobs, IN, Mandi Oliver of Bargersville, IN, Susan Sims (Jonathan) of Franklin, IN, Uriah Schrock (Rose) of Franklin, IN and John Kinder of Oregon, fifteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren, siblings Johnny Oliver (Sheila) of Indianapolis, IN, Robert Oliver of Indianapolis, IN, Pauline Hamilton of Franklin, IN, David Oliver (Phyllis) of Indianapolis, IN, Joe Oliver (Heather) of Arizona, Michael Oliver (Deborah) of Brown County, IN and Agnes Ferrell (Bill) of Florida.

His parents, a brother, Harlan George "H G" Oliver preceded him in death.

Johnny Oliver will conduct a service on Monday November 24, 2025 at 2PM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN and will be live-streamed at www.swartzmortuary.com/obituary/lutheroliverjr.  Visitation will take place on Monday, November 24, 2025 from 10AM until service time at the mortuary.

Burial with military honors will follow the service at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin, IN with honors being conducted by the United States Army Honor Guard and the Franklin American Legion Post 205 Honor Guard.
