Obituary

Martha Sue (Plummer) Burgett, 85, of Indianapolis, IN formerly of Whiteland, IN passed away Thursday, February 10, 2022 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

She was born March 6, 1936 in Rocklane, Johnson County, Indiana to Earl W. Plummer and Helen Louise (McClain) Plummer.  She married James Alvin Burgett on May 22, 1955 at Rocklane Christian Church in Greenwood, IN, he survives.

Martha was a 1954 graduate of Whiteland High School and a lifelong member of Rocklane Christian Church where she was a kindergarten teacher and Sunday School teacher, a summer Bible School director and sang in the church choir.  She enjoyed vegetable gardening and canning.

She had been employed by Sears in Greenwood as a decorator specializing in window treatments.  She also had been an Avon representative for many years.

Spending time with family and preparing Sunday dinners after church.  Was an incredible baby sitter and care giver for all of her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband James Alvin Burgett of Indianapolis, IN, five children Keith Andrew Burgett (Boots) of Greenwood, IN, Joy Annette Wheeler-Smith (Brian Wheeler) of  Indianapolis, IN, Douglas Matthew Burgett (Susan) of Flat Rock, IN, Rebecca Sue McPeak (Johnny) of Whiteland, IN and Elizabeth Ann Calo (Steve) of Greenwood, IN, grandchildren Sara Marie Maciak (Matthew), Melinda Jo Britt (Donovan), Chad Eric Burgett (Dawn), Daniel Barrett Wheeler, Jonica Marie Sherwood (Ryan), Jaimie Allison Babinec (Gabe), Abigail Nicole Hageman (Jack), Laura Elaine Wheeler, Joshua Lee McPeak (Ashley), Brooke Lauren Calo, Emily Susanne Bailey (Austin) and Kristan Amber Calo (Justin Bush), great-grandchildren Emmanuel James and Asher Mark Maciak, Lezlea Maekayla Lowe, Anthony James (Payton Faye), Cooper Donovan, Mason Keith and Daly Joseph Britt,  Andrew Scott and Samuel Eric Burgett, Devane James Sherwood, Griffin Paul and Garrett Paul Babinec, Haley Jocelyn and Leah Sloan McPeak, Warren Alan and Reid Douglas Bailey, great-great-grandchildren Nova Renee and Brooks Aaron Britt and a sister Marcia "Ann" Whitaker of Greenwood, IN and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Earl W. Plummer and Helen Louise (McClain) Plummer, a grandson Kelly James McPeak, a brother Jim Plummer, father-in-law Paul V. Burgett and mother-in-law Gladys (McClain) Burgett.

Pastor Seth Amerine will conduct a service on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at 7PM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN and will be live-streamed at www.swartzmortuary.com martha-burgett.  Friends may call Tuesday February 15, 2022 from 4PM until the 7PM service time at the mortuary.  A private family entombment will take place at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood, IN.
