Mary Lue (Doty) Mathena Walker, 86, of Whiteland, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June  24, 2024, at Johnson Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

Mary Lue was a devoted mother and wife and she especially loved the role of Mamaw Lue to her  grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She treasured her family and was loved beyond measure by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Mary Lue was known by all for her generosity and kind heart. She shared a love of baking, especially her famous sugar cream pies and yeast rolls, a family favorite at every gathering.

Mary Lue was a faithful servant and member at Hopewell Presbyterian Church.  Throughout her life, Mary Lue was a deacon and Sunday school teacher for many years. She was a 1956 graduate of Center Grove high school.

Born on December 25, 1937, Mary Lue was the daughter of Floyd Christopher and Mary Catherine (McClain) Doty, both of whom preceded her in death.

On December 23, 1961, she married James Edward Mathena at Hopewell Presbyterian Church in Franklin. Mary Lue was fortunate to raise her two sons at home as a homemaker on the family farm in Whiteland. Mary Lue and Jim enjoyed 38 wonderful years before he preceded her in death on April 2, 1999.

She then married William F. "Bill" Walker on July 5, 2003, at the Walker Farm in Greenwood. They resided in Greenwood and enjoyed many years of working alongside each other at the Walker Hatchery.  He preceded her in death on March 15, 2017.

Mary Lue is survived by her two sons: Chuck Mathena of Whiteland, and Alan (Lisa) Mathena of Whiteland; one stepson, Brian (Michelle) Walker of Greenwood; four grandchildren: Jessica  (Seth) Brown, Christopher Mathena, Alison (Kelson) Carter, and Kyle (Katy) Mathena; six great grandchildren: Tinley Brown, Tripp Brown, Tana Brown, Kennedy Carter, Crue Carter, and Kipp Mathena; and two step-grandchildren: Kaitlynn (Grant) Hendershot, and Garrett (Andrea) Walker.

She was also preceded in death by one brother, Cleon Doty and sister-in-law Telsie Doty; and one daughter-in-law, Cheryl Mathena.

Funeral services for Mary Lue (Doty) Mathena Walker will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Hopewell Presbyterian Church, 548 West 100 North, Franklin, IN, with Pastor Brandon Jolley officiating. Friends and family may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 28, 2024, at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN and from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Hopewell Presbyterian Church.
