Melvin Eugene Edwards, 83, of Marion, IN passed away Monday, December 26, 2022 at University Height Health and Living Community in Indianapolis, IN.  He was born February 20, 1939 in Spencer, Owen County, Indiana to Howard and Eula (Steirwalt) Edwards.  He married Lorene M. (Cummings) Edwards in 1964 in Martinsville, IN, she survives.

He was a graduate of Martinsville High School.

He owned and operated several service stations in Indianapolis, IN, later a concession stand at Care Auto in Gas City, IN and a mowing business in Marion, IN.

Melvin was a member of the Masonic Lodge.  He enjoyed working, keeping in touch and looking out after his family.

Survivors include his wife Lorene M. (Cummings) Edwards of Marion, IN, son Steve Edwards and daughter-in-law Lisa of Greenwood, IN, a daughter Patty Eldridge and son-in-law Larry of Greenwood, IN, step-son Carl Edward Faucett and his wife Debbie of Martinsville, IN, two step-daughters Terri Faucett of Marion, IN and Tonya Faucett of Marion, IN, a sister Marilyn Huff of Avon, IN, several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his fathers Howard Edwards and Walter Haig, Eula (Steirwalt) Edwards Haig, brothers Richard Edwards and Paul Edwards, and a stepdaughter Kayla Wilson.

Pastor Cody Johnson will conduct a service on Thursday, January 5, 2023 at 1PM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN and will be live-streamed at www.swartzmortuary.com .  Friends may call Thursday, January 5, 2023 from 12 Noon until service time at the mortuary.

A private burial will follow the service at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Greenwood, IN.
