Melvin Richard Weddle, 84, lifelong resident of Greenwood, IN passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at Franciscan Hospice House in Indianapolis, IN.
He was born June 21, 1937 at Stones Crossing in Greenwood, IN to the late Irwin H. Weddle and Alice F. (Purvis) Weddle. He married Shirley Deanna (Robinson) Weddle on July 26, 1986 in Greenwood, IN, she survives.
Melvin was a 1955 graduate of Center Grove High School. He retired in 1999 from Rolls-Royce in Indianapolis as a production control manager. He previously had worked at General Motors Allison Gas Turbine in Indianapolis for thirty-eight years. After retirement, he had worked part-time at Walkers Hatchery in Greenwood for many years.
He was a lifetime member of Mt. Auburn United Methodist Church in Stones Crossing, Greenwood. He was charter member of the White River Township Jaycee's, Greenwood Masonic Lodge #514, Indianapolis Valley of the Scottish Rite and the Murat Shrine.
He had served on the Johnson County Board of Zoning Appeals for twenty years and the Greenwood Board of Aviation Commission.
Melvin was blessed to have a green thumb just like his mother Alice and enjoyed gardening.
Melvin had served in the United States Army Reserves from 1959 until 1965.
Survivors include his wife Shirley D. (Robinson) Weddle of Greenwood, IN, his son R. Lance Weddle (Veronica) of Pendleton, IN, step-children Tammy Beaumont (Robert) of Monticello, IN, Jeffrey Stanley of Bradenton, FL and Darren Stanley (Sandra) of San Clemente, CA, two grandchildren Michael Weddle and Lindsey Weddle, step-grandchildren Julia Stanley, Jeffrey Stanley Jr., Jennifer Hensley (Caleb), Cooper Stanley, Eli Stanley, Owen Stanley and Sage Stanley, step-great-grandchildren Dalilah Masters, Delaney Masters, Jacob Masters Jr., Olliander Hensley and Kierstyn Bogard.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter Wendy Weddle whom preceded him in death on June 16, 2012.
Pastors Jeff Buck and Ben Greenbaum will conduct a celebration of life service on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 12 Noon at Mt. Auburn United Methodist Church, 3100 West Stones Crossing Road, in Greenwood, IN. The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 4, 2022 from 10AM until service time at the church. Ennichement will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Greenwood, IN.
