Monford Restal "Monty" Sprong Jr., 85, of Franklin, IN passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2026 at the Indiana Masonic Home at Compass Park in Franklin, IN.

He was born August 4, 1940 at St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove, IN to Monford Restal "Monty" Sprong Sr. and Betty Lou (Mazingo) Sprong.  Monty married Nedra M. (Listenberger) Sprong on December 12, 1964 in Shelbyville, IN, she survives.

He was a graduate of Wood High School in Indianapolis, IN.

Monty served two years in the Army Airborne from 1959 until 1961.

After returning home from the service, he was a meat cutter for A&P and Standard Grocery Stores, followed by twenty-nine and half years at Allison's in Indianapolis, IN.

Upon retirement, he work for the Greenwood United Methodist Church and after leaving there, he just picked up small jobs until finally retiring at the age of 78.

He enjoyed bowling, his dog Chaz, walking, and talking with people.

Survivors include his wife Nedra M. (Listenberger) Sprong of Franklin, IN, his three children Duane Sprong (Tina) of Franklin, IN, DeEnna Sprong of Franklin, IN and Darin Sprong (Amy) of Columbus, IN, six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

His parents preceded him in death.

A visitation will take place on Wednesday, March 25, 2026 from 6PM until 8PM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN.

A private burial will take place at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin, IN.
