Norma Jean (Gaier) Chaney, 96, of Franklin, IN and formerly of Columbus, IN, Middletown, IN, Daleville, IN and Moores Hill, IN passed away Saturday, October 7, 2023 at the Otterbein Franklin SeniorLife Community.
She was born January 16, 1927 in Columbus, IN to Carl and Florence (Keller) Gaier.
Norma was a graduate of Columbus High School, Ball Memorial Hospital School of Nursing where she received her Registered Nursing Graduate degree and Masters of Nursing receiving her Licensed Nursing Practitioner.
She had been a Registered Nurse at Community Hospital in Anderson, IN for 13 years retiring in 1994 at a charge nurse. Norma had also taught at Ball Memorial School of Nursing.
Norma was a member of Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church in Dillsboro, IN, lead health nurse for the Good Sam Camping Club, lifetime member of Southern Indiana branch, first woman on the Shenandoah School Board. She enjoyed camping in the United States, crocheting, fishing, collecting comics, working crossword puzzles and traveling throughout the United States.
Survivors include her daughters Jill A. McAtee of North Bend, IN and Rebecca Lewis of Cleves, OH, grandsons Tyler Manifold of Cincinnati, OH, Jeremy McAtee of Sharonville, OH and Sean Kammerer of Bethel, OH, a great-grandson Henry Kammerer of Bethel, OH, and great- granddaughter Elizabeth "Libbey" Reininger of Independence, KY.
She was preceded in death by her husband William Chaney, sister Georgia Threkeld, brothers Claude Gaier and Clyde Gaier and ex-husband Gerald Lewis.
Chaplain Deb Baker will conduct a service on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at 12:30PM at the Wright Chapel at Otterbein Franklin SeniorLife Community, 1070 West Jefferson Street, Franklin, IN where friends may call from 11AM until service time. A graveside service will follow on Thursday at 2:30 PM at Gardens of Memory, 10703 North State Road 3, in Muncie, IN.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Otterbein Franklin Seniorlife Community, 1070 West Jefferson Street, Franklin, IN 46131.
Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN is handling the arrangements.
