Peter "Pete" George Dykhuizen, 74, of Franklin, IN passed away Sunday May 29, 2022 surrounded by family.

He was born December 1, 1947 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Kenneth Isaac Dykhuizen and Betty Joan

(Vanatta) Dykhuizen.  He met his wife Victoria "Vickie" Anne (Ingle) Dykhuizen at Indiana University and married on December 27, 1972 in Washington, IN.  They had a daughter, Erin Andrea Dykhuizen.

Pete was a graduate of Colonel White High School in Dayton, OH and Indiana University School of Music where he received his Master's Degree in music.

He was a United States Army Veteran having the honor to be selected to play trumpet for the West Point Military Band.  One performance of note was Taps at the birthday celebration for President Franklin D. Roosevelt in Hyde Park, NY.

In his work life, he gravitated towards occupations that utilized his special talents.  He had an analytic mind, infinite patience, a willingness to help others, and was known most for his caring and compassionate nature.  He used these talents to help companies set up computer programming, taught music and helped struggling students with math.

One of his greatest passions was music.  He began playing trumpet in 6 ^th grade and continued this passion throughout his life.  He was an accomplished trumpet musician and performed with the Indianapolis Symphonic Band, the Indiana Wind Symphony, Tinsel Trumpets and multiple other groups.

Survivors include his wife Victoria A. "Vickie" (Ingle) Dykhuizen of Franklin, IN, his daughter Erin Andrea Dykhuizen of Franklin, IN, a sister Deborah Joan Sanders of Maggie Valley, NC, sister-in-laws Catherine Lisle (Geoffrey) of Carmel, IN and Patricia Ingle of Mooresville, IN, a nephew Christopher Lisle and niece Rachel Lisle.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-laws Mitchell Ingle and Bernard "Barnie" Sanders.

Pastor Andy Kinsey will conduct a service on Monday, June 6, 2022 at 5PM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN with military honors being conducted by the United States Army Honor Guard and the Franklin American Legion Post 205 Honor Guard and will be live-streamed at www.swartzmortuary.com .  Friends may call Monday, June 6, 2022 from 3PM until service time at the mortuary.

A graveside service will be conducted on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at 2PM at Abbotsville Cemetery, 4213 Sarver Road in Greenville, OH.
