Reverend Charles Edward "Woody" Thompson, 75, of Franklin, IN passed away Sunday, December 22, 2024.  He was born April 2, 1949 in Muncie, IN.

Woody was a 1967 graduate of Bedford High School in Bedford, IN, graduate of Indiana University School of Business, and Christian Theological Seminary.

He was a United States Army Veteran of the Vietnam War serving as an air traffic controller and later a training instructor at Ft. Rucker in Alabama.

He had served as a minister in the United Methodist Church in Indiana serving at Edgewood United Methodist Church in Indianapolis, Greensboro & Sugar Grove UMC, Greenwood UMC, New Market & Covenant UMC in Waveland, IN, Cloverdale UMC, Mount Olive UMC, Mohawk UMC in Greenfield, IN and currently at Flat Rock UMC since 2020.  Woody previously had worked at Allison Gas Turbine and General Motors Bus and Truck Group both in Indianapolis, IN.

Woody married Mary Jo (Blackburn) Thompson on April 25, 1970 in Bedford, IN, she survives.  In addition, surviving is his son C. Brandon Thompson of Indianapolis, IN, his daughter Jenna M. Jeffries (Matthew) of Indianapolis, IN, three grandchildren Leo Jeffries, Eva Jeffries, and Mia Jeffries, a special niece Debbie Unversaw of Bloomington, IN, a special nephew Lanny Robert Browning of Brownsburg, IN, his family in love Loren Roberts of Bedford, IN, Dennis Roberts of Bedford, IN and Joan Baker of Bedford, IN, a brother Jack Nay, sister Jill Kennedy and Caroline Phillips of Florida.

He was preceded in death by his mother Marguerite (Thompson) Nay, family in love parents Glen and Ruth Roberts, family in love brother Howard Roberts, a brother Bobby Nay, and grandparents Clarence and Naomi (Bryant) Thompson.

Reverend Jeff Buck will conduct a service on Saturday, December 28, 2024 at 10AM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN with military honors to follow by the United States Army Honor Guard and Franklin American Legion Post 205 Honor Guard.  Services will be live-streamed at www.swartzmortuary.com/obituary/charlesthompson.  Jeremy Van Deman will conduct a graveside service that will follow the service on Saturday, December 28, 2024 at 1PM at Cresthaven Cemetery, 3522 Dixie Highway in Bedford, IN.

Friends may call Friday, December 27, 2024 from 4PM until 8PM at the mortuary.
