It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard Lee Bernhardt of Greenwood, Indiana, on June 20, 2026. Born on April 29, 1949, Richard leaves behind a legacy of hard work, integrity, and devotion to his family.
Rich was predeceased by his beloved wife, Diane Marie Bernhardt, whom he married in 1974, and his son, Scott Bernhardt. He is survived by his sons, Paul and Kevin Bernhardt; his daughter-in-law, Allison Bernhardt; his brother, John Bernhardt; and his sisters, Cheryl Reagan and Nancy Hart.
A man of service and dedication, Rich served honorably in the United States Navy for eight years before receiving an honorable discharge in 1977. He went on to build a fulfilling career with the Federal Aviation Administration, where he worked until his retirement in 2006.
Rich was known for his strong work ethic and unwavering commitment to his family. An avid sports enthusiast, he was a passionate supporter of any and all Indiana teams and took great pride in sharing that enthusiasm with his sons. He was more than a father—he was a mentor, coach, and friend. The lessons he imparted will continue to shape the lives of those he loved.
Rich’s life was a testament to the values of hard work, loyalty, and love. His memory will be forever cherished by all who knew him.
Services are private.
Inurnment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery.
