Rita Mae (Coons) Gentry, 81, of Indianapolis, IN passed away Friday, November 4, 2022 at Community Hospital in Indianapolis, IN.

She was born December 12, 1940 at Coleman Hospital in Indianapolis, IN to Roy and Elizabeth (Dorrell) Coons.  She married John Gentry on August 7, 1995 in Indianapolis, IN, he survives.

She was a 1959 graduate of Clark Township High School in Johnson County, IN and Vincennes University.

Rita had been an executive secretary for the legal department at American United Life Insurance Company, which later become OneAmerica, in Indianapolis for 32 years.

She enjoyed playing cards, fishing, going on cruises with her husband John, and running the mini marathon in Indianapolis, IN.  She especially loved animals including dogs, cats and birds.

Survivors include her husband John Gentry of Indianapolis, IN, her stepson Brad Gentry (Kristie) of Whiteland, IN and her stepdaughter Stacia Smith of Franklin, IN, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Aaron Andrew Roseman on December 22, 2010, and her brother Paul Coons.

The Reverend Shan Rutherford will conduct a service on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at 2:30 PM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN and will be live-streamed at www.swartzmortuary.com .  Friends may call Tuesday, November 8, 2022 from 11:30 AM until service time at the mortuary.  Burial will follow the service at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Greenwood, IN.
