Rita Joanne (Mills) Mowat, 79, of Greenwood, IN passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

She was born January 29, 1943 in Toledo, OH to Frank L. and Ruth (Thompson) Mills.  She married Lawrence "Larry" Mowat Sr. on September 28, 1963 in Toledo, OH, he survives.

Rita was a 1961 graduate of Woodward High School in Toledo, OH.

She had been a medical stenographer for Mercy Hospital in Toledo, OH.

Rita was a founding member of Saints Francis and Clare of Assisi Catholic Church in Greenwood, IN where she had served as a Eucharistic minister.  She enjoyed reading, bird watching, R.V. camping, traveling, and going on cruises to the Caribbean and Alaska with her husband.  But most of all, she was the happiest being surrounded by her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband of 59 years Lawrence "Larry" Mowat Sr. of Greenwood, IN, her children Lawrence Mowat Jr. of Villa Rica, GA, Jennifer L. Danek (Steve) of Indianapolis, IN, Laurie Ann Mowat of Greenwood, IN and Rebecca M.Skeel (Joe) of Nineveh, IN, eight grandchildren Jacob Danek, Ruth Danek, Noah Skeel, Nathan Danek, Isaac Skeel, Leah Danek, Deborah Danek and Miriam Danek, a brother Daniel Mills (Marilyn) of Toledo, OH, two sisters Mary Ann Yarbarry of Clarkston, MI and Martha Sue Ramer (Tim) of Kalamazoo, MI, five nieces and one nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law Paul Yarbarry.

Father Steve Giannini will conduct a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 12 Noon at Saints Francis and Clare of Assisi Catholic Church, 5901 Olive Branch Road in Greenwood, IN.  The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 28, 2023 from 10AM until service time at the church.  Ennichement will follow the service in the Resurrection Garden Columbarium at Saints Francis and Clare of Assisi Catholic Church in Greenwood, IN.
