In Loving Memory of Robert Dean "Dean" Service, Jr.

Robert Dean Service Jr., affectionately known as Dean, passed away on June 24, 2025, at the age of 82.  Born on June 12, 1943, in Indianapolis, Indiana, he was the cherished son of Robert Dean Service, and Elsie (Doan) Service.  He married Sharon (Caplinger) Service on June 24, 1967, she preceded him in death.

Dean proudly served his country as a United States Marine during the Vietnam War, exemplifying courage, loyalty, and honor.  After returning home, he continued a life of public service with the Johnson County Highway Department, where his dedication helped shape the community he loved.

Throughout his life, Dean remained deeply involved in his community.  He was a proud member of Union Village Masonic Lodge, 545, the Scottish Rite, and the Franklin American Legion Post 205.  His early achievements included earning the rank of Eagle Scout, a testament to his lifelong spirit of service and integrity.

Dean's passions were many—he found joy in shooting, reloading, fishing, camping, and horseback riding, often in the company of cherished friends.  These moments of connection, laughter, and adventure defined the man who lived fully.  Dean will be remembered for his quiet strength, steadfast values, and enduring love for his family, friends, and country.  His legacy lives on in those whose lives he touched with kindness, wisdom, and unwavering devotion.

He is survived by his loving sons: Kevin (Robin) Service of Franklin, IN; Rick (Pam) Service of Tampa, FL; and Dean Service of Franklin, IN.  He was the proud grandfather of Nick Service, Chris (Amy) Service, and one beloved great-grandson, all of whom brought him immeasurable pride and joy.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Sharon Sue (Caplinger) Service.

Union Village Lodge 545, will conduct a Masonic Service with a celebration of life service to follow on Monday, June 30, 20205 at 12:00PM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 S. Morton Street, Franklin, IN 46131 and will be lived streamed at www.swartzmortuary. Com/obituary/robertdeanservice.  Friends may call Monday, June 30, 2025 from 10:00AM until time of service at the mortuary.

Burial with full military honors will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Franklin, IN.  Military honors will include the United States Marine Corps and the Franklin American Legion Post 205.
