Ronald L. Herron, 83, of Franklin, IN passed away Sunday, April 14, 2024 at Demaree Crossing in Greenwood, IN.
He was born March 13, 1941 in Columbus, IN to Leonard Cecil Herron and Ollie O. (Robertson) Herron. He married Carolee (Ward) Herron on June 29, 1963 in Hayden, IN; she preceded him in death on February 24, 2016.
Ron was a graduate of Columbus High School and the Indiana Barber College.
He had been a firefighter for the City of Franklin from 1975 until his retirement in 2005 with the rank of Lieutenant. He previously had been a barber in Franklin, IN for 20 years and a school bus driver for Franklin Community Schools.
Ron was a member of Six Mile Masonic Lodge #412 in Hayden, IN, and Gracepoint Church in New Whiteland. He enjoyed listening to Johnny Cash, watching Andy Griffith Shows, John Wayne western show and GRIT TV. He previously was a member of Amity Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon.
Survivors include his son Michael R. Herron (Carla) of Franklin, IN, his daughter Kristen C. Ratzman (Jon) of Greenwood, IN, his grandchildren Amanda Stevenson-Holmes (Matt) of Greenwood, IN, Joshua Stevenson of Savana, GA, Abigail Mentzer (Austin) of Greenwood, IN, Jared Herron of Leesburg, FL, Kaitlyn Proehl of Greenwood, IN, Trevor Proehl of Greenwood, IN and Samuel Ratzman of Greenwood, IN, one great-granddaughter Avelyn Mentzer, a brother Everett "Babe" Herron (Jeannie) of Columbus, IN and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, an infant brother William Herron, sisters Mary Ruth Williams, Elsie Spray, Donna Sue Holland and Etta Hancher.
Pastor Zack Scellato will conduct a service on Friday, April 19, 2024 at 10:30 AM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN and will be live-steamed at www.swartzmortuary.com. Friends may call Thursday, April 18, 2024 from 4PM until 8PM at the mortuary where a masonic service will be conducted at 7:30PM.
Burial will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Greenwood, IN.
