Roxie Sutton

Roxie (Prewitt White) Lewis Sutton, 95, of Greenwood, IN passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2026 at Bickford Assisted Living in Greenwood, IN.

She was born on March 25, 1931 in Goldbug, Kentucky.

Roxie was a 1948 graduate of Danville High School in Danville, IN. She married William Richard Lewis on December 2, 1950 in Indianapolis, IN; he preceded her in death on March 24, 1965. She later married Millard Oliver “Mert” Sutton in 1985 at Mt. Pleasant Christian Church in Greenwood, IN; he preceded her in death on July 25, 2001.

She had been a receptionist for the law firm of Applegate, Collins, Griggs, and Seuss in Indianapolis for five years and later served as a court reporter for Judge Applegate for 25 years.

She was a member for over 70 years at Mt. Pleasant Christian Church in Greenwood, IN where she had been a Sunday School teacher for all age groups and the Keenagers group. Roxie was also a member of the red hat society and the home economics club.

Survivors include her sons William R. “Bill” Lewis (Cathy) of Indianapolis, IN and Darrell R. Lewis (Linda) of Greenwood, IN, 7 grandchildren Ryan Lewis, Chett Lewis, Nathan Lewis (Monica), Will Lewis, Wayne Lewis, Wyatt Lewis (Lauren), and Whitney Lewis, and 7 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her fathers Roy Prewitt and Dallas White, her mother Hattie (Adkins) White, her husbands William Richard Lewis and Millard Oliver “Mert” Sutton, siblings Kathleen Booker, Joy Lamb, Tom White, Robert “Bob” White, Frank White and Jerry White.

Pastor Don Thie will conduct a service on Monday, August 17, 2026 at 1PM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN and will be live-streamed at www.swartzmortuary/obituary/roxielewissutton.

Visitation will take place on Monday, August 17, 2026 from 11AM until service time at the mortuary.

Burial will follow the service at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Greenwood, IN.
