Russell Wade Zimmerman

Russell Wade Zimmerman, 57, of Indianapolis, IN passed away far too soon on Thursday, July 9, 2026 leaving behind a family who loved him deeply, lifelong friends who cherished him, and a legacy of hard work, loyalty, and kindness that will never be forgotten.

Russell was born on April 25, 1969 in Beech Grove, IN to Byron David Zimmerman and Margaret Melissa Quinlan. He grew up with a love for family, hard work, and good ole American country living. He attended Indian Creek Schools, where he proudly served as President of the Future Farmers of America (FFA), demonstrating the leadership, determination, and work ethic that would define him throughout his life. He was a member of the Johnson County Antique Machinery Association.

Some of Russell's greatest blessings were the lifelong friendships he built. His best friends, Tony Wise and Tom Kral, stood beside him through many seasons of life. Russell was the kind of friend everyone hopes to have—steadfast, dependable, generous, and always willing to lend a helping hand. To know Russell was to love him.

A gifted mechanic, Russell could fix just about anything. He especially loved spending time working on his beloved Moline tractors and took great pride in competing in tractor pulls. His passion for engines didn't stop there—he had a lifelong appreciation for semi-trucks, especially Peterbilts, and admired the craftsmanship, power, and beauty they represented. He was a loyal employee to Hurricane Express Specialized Logistics for the last 22 years owned by Peter Norton.

Above everything else, Russell loved his family. He was a proud father to Amanda Zimmerman of Greenwood, IN, Ashley Collier of Indianapolis, IN, Rashae Campbell of Franklin, IN, and Wade Zimmerman (Kellie Zimmerman) of Whiteland, IN. His greatest joy was watching his family grow and spending time with those he loved most.

He was an incredibly proud grandfather to Ruby Scott, Collin Zimmerman, Vayda Collier, Saylor Collier, Axel Campbell, Rowan Campbell, and Waverley Sparks. His grandchildren brought immeasurable joy to his life, and each one held a special place in his heart.

Russell is also survived by his loving girlfriend, Crystal Sosbe of Indianapolis, IN; his stepmother, Linda Zimmerman of Trafalgar, IN, step-father Bob Hogue of Trafalgar, IN; his brothers, Clayton (Sarah) Zimmerman of Morgantown, IN, Bobby (Stacy) Hogue of Trafalgar, IN, Lance (Lydia) Hogue of Oklahoma, and Jason (Terri) Zimmerman of Trafalgar, IN; his nieces and nephews, Aunt Jody, Uncle Curt Quinlan, cousins and countless friends whose lives were made better simply by knowing him.

Russell's passing is a heartbreaking and tragic loss. His life was cut far too short, and there was so much more life left for him to live. The void left by his absence can never truly be filled. Yet even in the midst of overwhelming grief, his family finds peace and comfort in knowing that Russell is now home with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. They rejoice in the promise that this goodbye is not forever, but only until they meet again.

Russell's legacy will live on through the lives he touched, the lessons he taught, the laughter he shared, and the unconditional love he gave so freely. He will be remembered for his strong hands, his generous heart, his unwavering loyalty, and the countless memories he created with those fortunate enough to know him.

Though he is no longer with us in body, his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of his family and friends. His stories will continue to be told, his laughter will continue to echo in cherished memories, and his love will remain a guiding presence in the lives of those he leaves behind. Russell was deeply loved, will be profoundly missed, and will never be forgotten.

Pastor Ford Glover will conduct a service on Monday, July 20, 2026 at 10:30AM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN and will be live-streamed at www.swartzmortuary.com/obituary/russellzimmerman.

Visitation will take place on Sunday, July 19, 2026 from 2PM until 6PM at the mortuary. Burial will follow the service at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown, IN.
