Sally A. (Moglia) Williams

October 10, 1944 – June 24, 2025

"Everybody loves Sally!" No expression better captured her essence. Upon meeting her, people were instantly warmed by her smile and touched by her graciousness, kindness, and friendly, fun-loving spirit. She dedicated her time on earth, personally and professionally, to making peoples' lives better for having known her.

Sally was born and raised in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, by her loving parents Rita and Leo Wood, and Ruth Damon. She grew up alongside two brothers, David and Joe, and many friends, most of whom she kept close for the rest of her life. While adulthood carried Sally far from her beloved Berkshire County, where her ancestors established roots in the 1600's, it remained forever "home" in her heart.

Shortly after high school, Sally attended beauty school and worked to support herself from a young age. She married E. Francis (Fran) Moglia in April 1970. Together they raised four children. The Moglia family remained in Pittsfield in the early years, and Sally started her own business, Sally's Style Shoppe, out of their first home.

The family relocated to Michigan in 1976, and finally settled in Louisville, Kentucky, in 1979. Sally was a dedicated wife, and the kind of nurturing, devoted, present, fun-loving mother many of her children's friends wished they had. Her sons' friends lovingly referred to her as "Mama Mo."

Sally and Fran had a loving marriage for 17 years. When Fran became terminally ill in April 1986, Sally dedicated herself to caring for him and was by his side when he died, peacefully, at home that December.

Never one to let life's difficulties break her spirit, Sally courageously decided to start a new chapter. Having always dreamed of becoming a nurse, she enrolled in college for the first time in 1990. She proudly graduated from Spaulding College in Louisville in 1994, passed her boards on her first sitting, and began a new career working in oncology. Her determination to ease others' pain and provide comfort and care carried through her 20-year career, which included serving as a hospice nurse both in Louisville and, later, Indianapolis.

It was during her years working in oncology that she met and married Richard Williams, and became a loving stepmother to his two adult children. They made their home in Greenwood, Indiana, embracing new friendships, hosting Indy-500 parties, and traveling the world together. They were also co-parents to many cats and dogs during their 21-year marriage.

Sally retired in 2012, but that didn't stop her service to her community. She volunteered at her church, at the local USO, and worked for Senior Helpers for as long as she was able. An avid gardener and lover of the outdoors, she maintained a meticulous garden. She loved her life in Indiana, and always welcomed friends and family with a smile, a generous hug, and more often than not, warm cookies.

When Richard became ill in January 2022, Sally once again, without hesitation, took on the role of his caregiver, assisted by their children. She remained at his side until he passed that April.

It's said, "It takes a special person ..." and Sally was that person. During her lifetime she helped care for all three of her parents when their health failed, and was with them when they died. She did the same for her brother David, and numerous friends who went before her, providing love and support to them and to their families, who meant so much to her. If you had a friend in Sally, you had a friend for life. She was an everlasting example of what it means to be a selfless, kind, courageous, faithful, loyal human being.

Sally lived her final years in Arlington Heights, Illinois, with family. She died at her home, as peacefully and as gracefully as she lived, with her children by her side. Among the countless family and friends who will miss her presence here on earth, but who share in the joy of her return to God, are her daughters Michele (Mitch), grandson Zachary; and Karen (Kae) (Mark), grandchildren Emma, Charlie, and Amanda; her sons, Frank, granddaughter Delaney; and Tom; her stepchildren, Natalie (Todd) and Justin (Kendra), step-grandchildren Katie (Jon), Harrison, Jameson, and Caroline, and step-great-grandson Jensen; and her many sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, Godchildren, and grandpets.

Visitation will take place at Our Lady of the Wayside Church, 434 W. Park St., Arlington Heights, Illinois, Friday, July 11, 2025, from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. A mass celebrating her life will follow at 11:00.

A second visitation and prayer service will take place at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, Indiana on Monday, August 11, 2025, from 1:30 until 3:00 p.m. Burial will immediately follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, 734 N. Morgantown Rd., Greenwood, Indiana, 46142.

In lieu of flowers, you may make donations in her name to the Arlington Heights Senior Center, https://arlingtonseniorsinc.com/donations/ your local Hospice, or to the nonprofit of your choice. If you prefer to send flowers, she did adore yellow roses and wildflowers of all kinds.

The family extends our unending gratitude to Sally's wonderful physicians and nurses who have cared for her over last several years. Also, to her amazing home health caregivers, and to For Papa's Sake/Avid Health at Home, and Life Choice Hospice, without whose help we could not have managed. Thank you.
