Shirley J. (McTarsney) Calvert, 90, lifelong resident of Greenwood, IN passed away Thursday, September 4, 2025 at the Greenwood Village South Pavilion.
She was born February 23, 1935 in White River Township, Johnson County, IN to Hollis Lewis McTarsney and Katie Mae (Matz) McTarsney. She married DeWane Duke Calvert on May 10, 1953 at the First Christian Church in Honolulu, Hawaii; he preceded her in death on May 31, 2018.
Shirley was a 1953 graduate of Center Grove High School.
She was retired from AT&T formerly Indiana Bell as a plant clerk retiring in 1991 after 23 years of service. She also had been an Avon representative for 35 years.
Shirley was a member of Rocklane Christian Church in Greenwood, IN where she was the co-chairperson in organizing the Rock of Ages senior group at the church. She previously also was a member of the Johnson County Home Economics Club. Shirley also served on the board of directors of Clearbrooke Village where her and her husband DeWane resided and served as a volunteer at Franciscan Health in Indianapolis, IN. She enjoyed flower arranging, having worked at the Flower Market in Greenwood, and scrapbooking.
Survivors include her sons Tony Calvert (Angie) of Seattle, WA and Mark Calvert (Debby) of Novi, MI, grandchildren Justin Calvert (Shasta) of Seattle, WA, Gillian Calvert of Seattle, WA, Ryan Calvert (Melissa) of Seattle, WA, Grant Calvert (Lauren) of Greenwood, IN, Erin Holdorf (Brad) of Howell, MI and Alexander Calvert of Novi, MI, great-grandchildren Campbell Holdorf, Valen Calvert, Madison Calvert, Logan Calvert, Wade Breeze, and Collins Holdorff.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, husband; and her sisters Mary Ellen Parker on August 2, 2006 and Patricia "Pat" McTarsney on February 9, 2014.
Pastors Seth Amerine and Shan Rutherford will conduct a service on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at 11:30AM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN and will be live-streamed at www.swartzmortuary.com/obituary/shirleycalvert. Friends may call Friday, September 19, 2025 from 4PM until 8PM at the mortuary.
Entombment will follow the service at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood, IN.
