Shirley Ann (Maggard) Sawyer, 72, of Greenwood, IN passed away peacefully in her home on October 24, 2024 surrounded by her husband, children, and grandchildren.
Shirley was born on December 26, 1951 in Columbus, IN to Jake and Minnie (Gill) Maggard. She was a graduate of Brown County High School, Class of 1970, she married her high school sweetheart Steven Sawyer in Nashville, IN on June 6, 1970. Together they had a wonderful life for 54 years of marriage and raised a beautiful family, the most important thing in her life.
In addition to her family, Shirley loved traveling, working in her flower garden, vacations to the beach and Disney with her kids and grandkids, and socializing with friends. She planned wonderful parties and family gatherings. Shirley was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, volunteering for schools, scouts, and sports teams throughout her children's and grandchildren's lives.
Shirley is survived by her husband Steve Sawyer of Greenwood, Indiana; two children: Andrea Lott Haney (widow of Brian Haney) of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL and Jason Sawyer of Greenwood, IN; three grandchildren: Jordan Sawyer of New Whiteland, IN, Hannah Ward (Ryan Ward) of Naperville, IL, and Jenna Sawyer of Greenwood, IN; and one great-grandchild, Jack Sawyer Ward of Naperville, IL, and her brother Lee Maggard (Sheila Maggard) of Seymour, IN.
Reverend Mickey Roy will conduct a service on Sunday, October 27, 2024 at 4PM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN and will be live-streamed at www.swartzmortuary.com/obituary/shirleysawyer. Friends may call Sunday, October 27, 2024 from 1PM until service time at the mortuary.
