Terry L. Canary

Terry L. Canary, 76, of Franklin, IN passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at Otterbein Franklin Seniorlife Community in Franklin, IN.

He was born July 12, 1950 in Franklin, IN to Eugene Raymond “Gene” Canary and Betty Rena Lee (Wagoner) Canary.

Terry was a 1968 graduate of Franklin Community High School.  He was a United States Air Force Veteran having served from 1971 until his honorable discharge in 1974.

Terry had been an electronics technician.  He was a member of Victory Christian Church in Franklin, IN.

Terry was a COB (Citizen on the Battlefield) at Camp Atterbury and Muscatatuck for several years helping to acquaint new recruits and rigors of Iraq. He was an actor, pretending at times to be wounded or be an angry Iraqi warning the troops of dangers ahead. He worked in the heat of the summer and coldest of winter when he was called, he went to serve. Terry was very proud to eventually become number one COB.

Terry enjoyed traveling with his mother and father.

Survivors include several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

A time of gathering and sharing will take place on Wednesday, August 19, 2026 from 5PM until 8PM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN.  Inurnment will take place at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin, IN.
