Toby Vernon Poynter, 77, of Indianapolis, IN passed away Saturday, April 1, 2023 at his residence in Indianapolis, IN surrounded by his loving family.

He was born October 19, 1945 in Greencastle, IN to Cecil and Juanita (DeFries) Poynter.  He married Nancy L. (Farrow) Poynter on June 15, 1963 in Kansas City, MO; she preceded him in death on February 15, 2018.

He had been a professional meat cutter for Kroger at Edgewood Avenue and Madison Avenue in Indianapolis after a 34-year career with the company.

Toby was a member of Gospel Assembly Church in Indianapolis and the UFCW 3000 Union.

He enjoyed fishing, gardening and yardwork.

Survivors include his children Nelson V. Poynter (Chris) of Fort Payne, AL, Greg A. Poynter (Tammy) of McCordsville, IN, Jeff D. Poynter of Indianapolis, IN, Dawn S. White (Thomas) of Indianapolis, IN and Toby V. Poynter Jr. of Indianapolis, IN, grandchildren Christopher Poynter (Abby) of Indianapolis, IN, Olivia Gomez (Steven) of Tennessee, Jessica Wilson (Bradley) of Greenwood, IN, Allison Poynter of Indianapolis and Clay White of Indianapolis, IN, four great-grandchildren Emma Payne, Thomas Joe Payne, Harrison Gomez and Samuel Poynter, a sister Naomi Corley of New Port Ritchie, FL and a brother Naman Poynter (Myrna) of Greenwood, IN and Phillis Ruggieri, his better half and was a part of his last five years of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brothers Edward Poynter and Cecil Dewan Poynter.

A celebration of life memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 1PM at Gospel Assembly Church, 5809 Bluff Road, Indianapolis, IN 46217.
