Obituary

Velda Jean (Inman) Self, 93, of Greenwood, IN passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at Grand Victorian of Greenwood, IN.

She was born July 14, 1931 in Harrodsburg, Monroe County, Indiana to William McKinley Inman and Leola Merle (Smith) Inman.

Velda married Obed "Dick" Self on February 26, 1955 at the U.S. Naval Base in San Diego, California, he survives.

She was a graduate of Smithville High School in Monroe County, IN.

Velda had been a bookkeeper for Heritage Christian Schools in Indianapolis for fourteen years retiring in 1981.  She also had been a school bus driver for Southside Christian School.

She had been a member at Suburban Baptist Church and Victory Baptist Church, had taught Sunday School, vacation Bible school, attended Bible Study Fellowship for several years, and was an avid bowler.

Survivors include her husband Obed "Dick" Self of Greenwood, IN, three sons Tony Self (Dottie) of Greenwood, IN, Terry Self (Anna) of Greenwood, IN and Tracy Self (Rene) of Greenfield, IN, granddaughters Tara Lawler (Jonathan), Brittany Valentine (Clinton), Gretchen Owens (Justin), Tina List (Stephen), Taylor Glass and Toni Godsey (Erik), seventeen great-grandchildren, and a sister June Reeves (Stan) of Bloomington, IN.

She was preceded in death by her parents William McKinley Inman and Leola Merle (Smith) Inman, siblings Garnett Inman, Jess Inman, Cecil Inman, Calvin Inman, Gerald "Dud" Inman, Meredith Inman, Veronica Hatfield, Ina Todd, Gladys McGlothlin, great-grandchildren Samuel Lawler and Asher Owens.

Pastor Jonathan Lawler will conduct a graveside service on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at 10AM at Clover Hill Cemetery in Harrodsburg, Indiana.

Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN is handling the arrangements.
